Is this ok when selling a house? Doesn’t feel right

We are selling our house, part way between exchange and completion. We’ve half moved out (sleeping in new place) but still lots of stuff in old house.

We’ve just found out that EA has been letting the buyers in on several occasions and has facilitated their tradespeople coming in to carry out work (who have damaged the property). We were not asked about any of these ‘visits’.

It feels like a massive invasion of our property /privacy but I don’t know if I’m just being precious as we won’t own it soon.

I worked as an agent in the UK. There is a very strict code of compliance that must be adhered to. To breach it is to risk criminal (not civil) prosecution. You must make a formal complaint asap. This is a blatant breach.

Would you mind paste in a link for me to this so called code of conduct because I’ve had a far serious breach than this in the last two years and absolutely nothing was done about it.

It's still your house, what if the sale falls through. Last time we moved we ran out of room in the truck for everything and even though the owner had moved out he went to the house to stop us dropping stuff under the car port until we had the keys.

@DonnatellaLyman Did you contact the EA?

Blossomtoes · 30/07/2022 10:32

If the sale falls through @DonnatellaLyman will be £££££ better off. They’ve exchanged and she gets to keep the 10% deposit they’ve paid. It’s still completely unethical on the agents’ behalf.

CFs might have taken a copy of the keys, change the locks now then change them back upon completion, you can use the new locks on your new property. YOU SHOULD ALWAYS CHANGE LOCKS TO NEW PROPERTY you never know who has keys

YANBU. I'd go mental at the estate agent about this.

I thought it was bonkers enough that our buyers had furniture delivered to out house before we even had a completion date confirmed - we left it out in the front garden in the rain and text the estate agent to tell them to come and pick it up ASAP. I wasn't going to store their shit for weeks on end, especially when they tried to get us to pay for their survery by pleading poverty. Cheeky fuckers.

Ortega888 · 30/07/2022 13:38

Speak to the estate agents to stop this now as it’s your home until the new buyers have signed the papers. What if they pull out. Put a stop to it now. Let us know how you go on.
