To be slightly freaked out by this?! 😅

So I woke up this morning and let the dog out in the garden… and right in front of my back door was a pig’s ear - the dried up dog treat type.

This week was the first time I’ve ever bought my dog pig ears because of his age but he hasn’t tried them yet. The first thing I done was check his packet to see if my family who were here yesterday had give him some whilst I was out, but nope packet is still completely sealed with no holes in etc.

There is no dogs either side of me, only some over the back but there is no way it could have accidentally been chucked over into my garden because the garden is too long for it to reach that far.

My house was empty for 6 months before I moved in and the person before me was an elderly person who had no pets.

Where the hell has this pig ear come from and AIBU for feeling slightly freaked out and paranoid?! 😅

My dog loves to bury his pigs ears for reasons best known to him! I suspect this has been buried at some point and retrieved by some helpful wildlife. Bit freaky though, given you just bought some!

Probably just a fox.

WeirdHappenings93 · 28/07/2022 09:19

There hasn’t been a dog in the house for at least 20 years… the neighbours knew the person who lived here and said they never had a dog, we don’t get foxes in here because our fences are way too high…

Dropped by a seagull? Some dog somewhere is missing its chew!

Lockheart · 28/07/2022 09:20

Foxes can get over 6ft fences and fit through surprisingly small gaps.

It's probably a fox.

WeirdHappenings93 · 28/07/2022 09:22

A seagull is a good bet, we do get them around here, it was just such a weird coincidence with ours only being delivered!

Dropped by a bird. They'll try to make off with anything and often give up or accidentally drop things.

WinterMusings · 28/07/2022 09:23

Unless your fence is 10ft a fix definitely can get in, other wildlife too. Birds of prey drop things.

I can understand you initially being a bit confused & checking the packet, but NO, it's not something to be freaked out or concerned by.

Agree with all of this. We also have clever neighbourhood crows who regularly bring all sorts of snacks to our garden to wash or soften in the bird bath. They’d soon abandon a chew once they knew they weren’t going to soften it enough to eat. There is a simple and natural explanation for this. No woo!

Discovereads · 28/07/2022 09:29

Obviously your (super)dog can teleport treats out of sealed packages. Did you count the pig ears? I am sure the package is now one short.

SarahSissions · 28/07/2022 09:34

Is your dog well liked locally? There was a horrible story recently about a neighbour dropping poisoned treats over the fence. I’d bin it and keep and eye out for anything suspicious

Ducksinthebath · 28/07/2022 09:38

It's birds. They drop things in my garden all the time. I had about a quarter of a garlic baguette last week. From time to time we get bones too - from the local chicken shop or from some little animal they've scavenged.

WeirdHappenings93 · 28/07/2022 09:39

@SarahSissions this is what I’m paranoid about because there was a few cases of this over the years in the area… my dog doesn’t cause any issues at all, he doesn’t even bark yet (still a young dog) and is the most quiet and timid thing you’ll ever meet (he came from a bad background) HOWEVER the neighbour over the back and me have had a couple of disagreements about something else not related and she’s made it clear she’s not a fan of me. It’s also quite easy to let yourself into my back gate so I’ll be a getting a second lock for it today!

Someone near me found a (live) koi carp on their patio one day...

A bird is definitely your best bet!

Allthegoodnamesarechosen · 28/07/2022 10:33

A Fox left a lambs leg on our doorstep some years ago ( I mean a leg still covered in fur . The leg of pork wrapped in clingfilm was definitely down to the senior cat 😺)
