I bought some stuff from the pharmacy today and it really works! So go and ask it's great for mosi bites too

BrownStripePJ · 27/07/2022 23:09

Where is the sting?

If it's foot or leg... eleavte it

Take ibuprofen
Take antihistamines
Apply ice pack, but do intervals so apply 10 mins then off for 40 or something

I had a bad sting on my toe. The swelling /redness spread to my ankle

Took 12 days to fully go back to normal

BrownStripePJ · 27/07/2022 23:09

I applied hydrocortisone cream but it didn't help

LadyLaSnack · 27/07/2022 23:11

I think it’s vinegar to sooth a wasp sting?

wasp sting is alkaline so the acid in the vinegar neutralises.

MereDintofPandiculation · 27/07/2022 23:13

Vinegar.

wasp sting is alkaline so-applying an acid neutralises it.

Bees and ants are acid, so don’t use vinegar on those.

anotherlatte · 27/07/2022 23:14

Vinegar. Pour some on paper towel or some tissues and hold onto the sting.

justasking111 · 27/07/2022 23:15

Clean the area with soap and cold water. Then ice cubes wrapped around injury ten minutes on ten minutes off and repeat. Ibuprofen for the pain. See chemist in the morning

LakeFlyPie · 27/07/2022 23:15

Bee-carbonate of soda for bee stings
Vinegar for vasps!

Antarcticant · 27/07/2022 23:16

Take an anti-histamine.

PastMyBestBeforeDate · 27/07/2022 23:19

Vinegar and anti histamine. I am allergic.

mrsmacmc · 27/07/2022 23:19

VW = vinegar for wasp 🐝 stings. My gramps gave me this tip to remember years ago ❤️

Bee-carbonate of soda for bee stings
Vinegar for vasps!

Thank you for this mnemonic

RagzRebooted · 27/07/2022 23:21

Vinegar immediately.
Antihistamine cream (like antisan) not hydrocortisone (which some bite creams are). Oral antihistamine (preferably Pirton/chlorohenamine, but the one a day one's will do).
Painkiller/anti inflammatory if it's painful.

Allergic reaction can come on later, but would be very unlikely if you've never been stung by one before. NHS website will list symptoms.

That's how I remember it too!

Thank you for this mnemonic

I remember it as B(ee) for Bicarbonate and Winegar for Wasps. Not sure where I read/heard it as a chi, but it stuck and I've used the vinegar method when DS1 was stung at a fete. It really helped.

WeAllHaveWings · 27/07/2022 23:23

Vinegar helps. I used it when I had 5 stings. The dog disturbed a ground nest and I tried to save him from getting stung 🤦🏻‍♀️ they were all through denim on my thighs so think I got off lighly.

SenoritaNaturista · 27/07/2022 23:23

Credit card edge to wipe away if there is any residual surface sting visible.
Antihistamines - syrup for rapid effect if you have some, then tablets later.
Over days it is likely to get hotter and more painful, receding after 10 to 12 days IME

WendellGeez · 27/07/2022 23:25

My dad is allergic to wasp stings.

Break open an anti-histamine capsule (he always carries a Benadryl with him) and rub the powder right onto the stung area.

Dressme2023 · 27/07/2022 23:28

My dc got his first wasp stings a week ago... 10 in fact in 1 go after getting in the middle of a nest :(
We used Anthisan, oral piriton and a ton of ice. After 10 mins he stopped screaming and after 30 mins he was back playing
Thank God he wasn't allergic

RumJerrySailorRum · 27/07/2022 23:32

If you think it's swelling, draw round the mark, then if the redness has spread in the morning you'll be able to tell. If it has, pharmacy or doctors if you can get in.

In the meantime, vinegar like everyone else has said.

Lindy2 · 27/07/2022 23:42

I got stung by a wasp the other evening. I accidentally put my hand down on it and it stung the palm of my hand.

My god did it hurt! You have my full sympathy. I remember being stung a couple of times as a child but not how much it hurt!

I put vinegar on it. I also took antihistamines and paracetamol (although apparently ibuprofen is better but I had run out).

The thing that actually helped the most was an ice pack. I pretty much had to keep it chilled for several hours untilthepain subsided a bit.

By the next morning it was still quite sore but I didn't need the ice pack any more. It was hot and itchy for a few days after that but then OK. I put a bit of hydrocortisone on it but I'm not sure that did anything.

I hope it feels better soon.

Sideorderofchips · 27/07/2022 23:50

Be careful as allergies can develop if he is stung enough times. As happened to my Dad after he stepped on a nest (twice, on the same day, the same nest…)
