Dangling earrings on rambunctious three year olds

A similar style to these pictured.

AIBU to think it's ridiculous and borderline dangerous to put earrings like these on a three year old who spends their days running and jumping around, rough housing with other children.

I think it's absolutely disgusting to have any earrings on a 3yr old tbh. But obviously these are dangerous.

Ihatethenewlook · 27/07/2022 18:07

Well obviously yes. Clearly the person who put these on their child isn’t particularly bothered though. I don’t think any small children should be wearing any ear rings at all. A child at my dd’s 3rd birthday ended up in a and e due to an incident with small studs.

Tillow4ever · 27/07/2022 18:07

YANBU. No 3 year old needs earrings - putting dangly ones on is asking for trouble!

Johnnysgirl · 27/07/2022 18:07

Yes, absolutely. Personally I hate all earrings on young children, but that seems to be quite a niche view 🤷🏻‍♀️

Brendabigbaps · 27/07/2022 18:10

Nearly as stupid as shellac on a 2 yr old

Petulias · 27/07/2022 18:10

The child is over here at my house at the minute playing with my DC and I just want to take the silly things out. Its an accident waiting to happen 😫

So why don't you? I would

Send her home.

Wafflesnsniffles · 27/07/2022 18:13

Earrings of any variety on a child but dangly ones in particular. Particularly a child that young.

Petulias · 27/07/2022 18:15

I've just taken them out and explained that I didn't want her to have an accident with them, not sure it'll go down well with mum but Jesus christ what is wrong with some people.

Ridiculous, unnecessary and dangerous. Is the parent of this child so stupid that they genuinely don't see the potential for this to be ripped out or is their vanity more important? If this child was at my house I would take them out and if questioned I'd tell the parent that you were worried about her hurting herself in your care.

All earrings on babies and young children are pretty rank in my opinion.

A combination of both without a doubt.

The poor girl has been here in shoes 2 sizes too big before, another time she was out for a lengthy walk wearing slide on wedges. You can gather how that went.

The parents have mistaken her for a dolly not a daughter 🙄.

Summerslam · 27/07/2022 18:31

I don't mind earrings on children, in some cultures it's the norm, but stud earrings only, not dangly ones. That's just asking for a torn earlobe 😱

Herejustforthisone · 27/07/2022 18:56

How disgusting.

CucumberCool · 27/07/2022 18:58

You definitely did the right thing taking them out and 'keeping them safe ' for her.

Passedmybedtime · 27/07/2022 19:12

I've seen grown women with their earlobes ripped, they didn't get that sort of scarring from studs

Mapletreelane · 27/07/2022 19:14

I've seen kids at soft play with bigger earrings than that. The stupidity of the parents makes me want to weep.

It's right up there with 3 year olds flying around on scooters with lollipops sticking out of their mouths. Absolutely stupid.

Greenleaf22 · 27/07/2022 19:36

Never would I put big earrings on a child incase they ripped them out but I think studs look pretty.

Runmybathforme · 27/07/2022 19:39

Any earrings on young children should be banned. It's abuse and chavy.

It's traditional in a lot of cultures, particularly Asian ones!

Having said that, they tend to be small gold studs, not long dangly ones.
