So this is doing my head in. It started last Tuesday on the really hot day(s). I've been putting calamine lotion on since the weekend it helps calm it down a bit but it made the skin really dry, so this morning in the shower I exfoliated really gently and rubbed some moisturiser on it, but it's worse than ever this evening. Have put more calamine on. Tried some hydrocortisone cream I have for excema and it does take the itch out but doesnt really help. It's quite cool here now, early 20's . Am finding it hard to wear trousers - have been going round in a light sun dress. Back to work tomorrow and the thoughts of putting my black trousers on over it is killing me. Anyone any tips to speed up recovery? It's all over my knees, and goes up the back of my thighs and lower buttocks. Really really itchy and sometimes sore. I have had it before, but it usually goes down after a couple of days. I sleep with a fan blowing on me, but literally last night it was so cool I turned it off. Anyone???

I take antihistamines and use a dry oil spray it's greasy so moisturisers it and it goes quickly.

cofingalthetime · 26/07/2022 19:41

I'll try taking an antihistamine again - I forgot the last couple of days. What is the name of the dry oil spray, or what should I google? Thanks v much

Drink at least 3L of water a day and eat plenty if bananas sounds crazy but it works.

cofingalthetime · 26/07/2022 19:48

Lol I never ever eat bananas!!! Will get a few when I go to the shops :) I'm pretty good with drinking water though not 3 litres

Stop putting creams etc on it and take anti histamine regularly. Piriton is the best as you can take it throughout the day but normal ones will do. Use antihistamine cream too.

My daughter suffers with it and uses this stuff. She says it’s brilliant.

I had something similar a month or so ago - google polymorphic light eruptions and see if it rings any bells.
I think mine was down to using some out of date sun cream, but it lasted over a week and made me want to tear my skin off it was so itchy. Not recommended...

Arucanafeather · 26/07/2022 19:55

Antihistamines are the only thing that I have ever found that helped. Antihistamines take up to 2 weeks though to build up to have a noticeable impact so persist even if they don’t give an immediate effect.

Experiment with Piriton and Piriteze. I respond well to one of them and DD1 the other (unfortunately I can never remember which medicine for whom!). It works even better if combined with hydrocortisone cream too IME.

Knavesmirelass · 26/07/2022 21:27

I used to suffer terribly with this until I was given some advice by a greek pharmacist whilst on holiday a long time ago and it still works a treat.
Anything that sits on the skin or blocks the pores, lanolin based creams etc are an absolute no go. Using an aloe Vera gel after a shower is perfect for soothing and cooling it and no perfumed shower gels, no perfumed sprays and no eating eggs for some reason I forget (she was very specific on this!). Try to shower on a morning and again at night to keep the skin/pores clean and to take antihistamines as and when needed.

still suffering :( anyone else battling it. I find calamine and/or aloe is the best for calming it down but after a couple of hours it comes back itchy as ever. I'm in work today and it's driving me nuts. Am taking both the allergy tablets - one is hydrochoric something, and the other one begins with an L, loratedeine or soemthing liket that. Doesn't seem to be helping though

No idea if you're still itchy, but if it takes about 10 days to go, really do google polymorphic light eruptions. I had it for the first time this year - I woke nightly scratching my legs off. I think it was due to using some out of date sun cream, as I've been in the sun since and not suffered, but do have a look. Hope it's better now.

hellhavenofury · 11/08/2022 10:30

This might sound weird but natural yoghurt!! Use the back of a spoon to spread it.. leave it on until it drys and then jump in the shower. I suffered with it for the first time a few years on holiday and a local greek girl at the hotel told me this trick and within 2 days it was gone!

hellhavenofury · 11/08/2022 10:31

Oh to add, do it daily on an evening before bed 😃

Wheelyweddingwipedout · 11/08/2022 10:47

Please go to a pharmacy and show it to a pharmacist

Mrspostitnote · 11/08/2022 11:07

I get this a lot and I find sudocrem brilliant for the itching.
