to ask delivery people to bring wardrobe upstairs?

So I usually get flat pack furniture - cant remember ever buying a 'ready made piece' lol. I'm getting a wardrobe delivered, but just had a thought - how will I get it upstairs! For those of you who order ready made pieces of furniture, do you bring them upstairs yourselves or ....? Maybe I need to re-think this!

Do you mean upstairs to the front door of your flat? Or upstairs to your bedroom in your more than one level house?

Mally100 · 26/07/2022 15:06

I have always had ready made furniture delivered to room of choice. I think you state those details under delivery information usually.

cofingalthetime · 26/07/2022 15:07

Sorry I mean upstairs in my house.

It's 2nd hand, coming from a warehouse though, and they use a 'local courier' for delivery, so not sure if IABU to ask for help getting it upstairs. Actually I'm wondering now if it will even go up the stairs. How would I check that I wonder. Sorry bit clueless here.

They should deliver to the room of your choice, so long as this is possible without disassembling it ( I always had to get flat pack in our old house as the loft conversion stairs meant nothing assembled would go up or down either staircase).

Go onto their website and read the T&C's/FAQ's, it will tell you there what the delivery entails.

We have ordered solid wood furniture from two different companies and both times they took the items to where we wanted them and took the packaging off. One company took the packaging away the other said it was down to us to dispose of it.

Meraas · 27/07/2022 08:49

I would ask.

And ask the company now, call them.

And if they say no, ask the delivery guys on the day.

You don’t ask, you don’t get.

IKEA delivered a mattress to our bedroom upstairs.

maddening · 27/07/2022 08:51

10 would be fine imo to carry upstairs

Womencanlift · 27/07/2022 08:54

Is it a delivery firm or a ‘man with a van’ type? Delivery firms will vary depending on their T&Cs. The likes of companies like Ikea will deliver to room of choice, but a friend got a king size mattress abandoned at her front door - she should have paid extra at time of ordering apparently to get it upstairs

A ‘man with a van’ is more likely to help out if you offer a sweetener

Womencanlift · 27/07/2022 08:55

I should say the mattress delivery was not Ikea but a different company

ihavenocats · 27/07/2022 10:22

Ask away and offer a tip such as a fiver or tenner.

Shinyandnew1 · 27/07/2022 10:25

Actually I'm wondering now if it will even go up the stairs

What have you ordered?!

I would be ringing the company asap and saying you were v worried it won’t fit up the stairs-they need to be aware as they may think they are dropping it on your doorstep!

YouWakeUpFlawless · 27/07/2022 11:05

Unfortunately a lot of courier companies are not insured to bring it inside of the property, incase of any accidents or damage to the property and they would be liable.

This should be documented in their delivery information or just call them and ask

bangersandsmashhh · 27/07/2022 11:11

It’ll be company specific
you can always open the boxes and carry bits upstairs it won’t be hard work
