I'm so sad. What have they done?! 45% less salt = minging crisps 😢

OP posts:
overitall1 · 26/07/2022 14:46

Ritz biscuits! Omg the salt hit was amazing (could be why I have high BP!) now no salt and they are so bland they're disgusting.

I can't eat sweeteners so get really frustrated when they keep taking out sugar and adding Ace K and Aspartame. 😡

Cr22345678990 · 26/07/2022 14:46

Do you mean the 45% less salt version ? They are grosse. They still do the normal walkers salt and vinegar but they’ve changed too 😭 Salt and vinegar Pringles have changed disgusting that REALLY pissed me off.

KylieCharlene · 26/07/2022 14:48

Walkers now do 'A dash of Salt and Vinegar' aswell as the (I thought) original 'Salt and Vinegar'.
Could that be it?
The packets are almost identical.

WeeM · 26/07/2022 14:49

thats funny as I had a packet the other day and thought they tasted rotten-they were also an odd consistency, like as if they were slightly stale. I actually checked the date in case they were old but they weren’t. I do wish they’d just stop fucking about with things. San Pellegrino sparkling juices are another one, now full of sweetener and taste crap. I used to love them but now just don’t ever get them at all.

Kerrrmieee · 26/07/2022 14:50

The word minging will always have a place.
It even has its own collective noun : A gaggle of mingers.

Okay so that may only exist in my world - but:

Yes had some Walkers S&V and there was a cheesy aftertaste, wasn't nice and bring back the hard hitters.

Blackdiame · 26/07/2022 14:16

You need the co-op sea salt and chardonnay vinegar crisps. They're proper turn your face inside out salty and give you headache brain freeze levels of vinegar.

Oooooh! I LOVE really salt and vinegary crisps so will give these a try - thanks!

co-op do seem to do well with food, several posters recommended their midget gems and fruit gums as they are vegan and they are fantastic

Searched for it but nothing came up?

Have a look in the South African shops, its a big thing here.

We get Lays here (which I think is your version of Walkers).... they only went and DISCONTINUED salt and vinegar flavour. WTAF. I still do not understand it....

They was a bit of a public outcry and they claimed that roast beef, chicken, teriyaki and American bbq were way more popular. Once again I say, WTAF. Roast beef is also minging.

FeebasAquarium · 26/07/2022 14:06

The fruit gums have become vegan friendly so they must’ve taken out the gelatine, which I mean is a good thing really if you think about it but now sweets have become wrong.
May the risk of sounding 107, things were better in my day (I’m 40 😂)

Well you've ruined my day or rowntree's have because every year on my trip home to the UK I eat many packets of fruit gums. They're my favourite and I can't get them here. Might have to tell my family i'm not bothering with the cost of the flight this year 😂

lollipoprainbow · 26/07/2022 14:54

Ribena. I miss proper Ribena I saw the original being sold on Ebay for about £90

Proper Ribena in the glass bottle and thick with black currents yum ! I remember drinking it hot in the 80's. Not the horrible squash version now.

Yes! The lemon San used to be gorgeous, didn't have it often.

It was a real hit of 'too sour, eye squinting, don't like it, love it, need some more!' 😉😮😍😋

Now just blah.

isthismylifenow · 26/07/2022 14:55

Oh and one more salt and vinegar topic. Ours (when you can find them) are in blue packets. Why are yours green??? That is for cheese and onion surely?

Bluevelvetsofa · 26/07/2022 13:40

They’ve done something to Rowntrees fruit gums, so now they’re far too squidgy. Which I suppose is a good thing for me, because I won’t buy them. Not so good for Rowntrees maybe.

Haven't they made them vegan now, or some other shite like that?

the80sweregreat · 26/07/2022 15:12

Walkers have gone down hill I think
I had a small bag of plain ones the other day out of a multi pack and they tasted horrible, not had crisps in a while. They tasted oily and only about 10 crisps in the whole bag.
A lot of food is disappointing lately.

isthismylifenow · 26/07/2022 15:16

A-ha. This is a South African product.....

Robertsons

This is the one I buy, but I see it's out of stock as well though...

My dd goes through this at a rate of knots. On popcorn as well.

Salt & vinegar seasoning
By Barney Desmazery

Preparation and cooking time
Prep:5 mins plus drying out

This classic, simple seasoning goes well with crisps, chips and a whole host of dishes. We've used malt vinegar for an authentic 'chip shop' flavour

Ingredients
6 tbsp fine sea salt
3 tbsp vinegar (we used malt)
1 tbsp cornflour

Method
STEP 1
Put all the ingredients into a small bowl and use a wooden spoon to mix into a paste. Scrape the paste onto a baking tray and leave it uncovered at room temperature for 24 hrs until hardened. Use a fork to break up the hardened mix into a coarse powder. Will keep in an airtight container for up to two months.

I've just had a bag of walkers Ready Salted with my lunch and was totally shocked at how disgusting they now are - in fact, i threw half the bag away as it was just like eating cardboard

Junipar · 26/07/2022 15:32

Twiglets have completely changed as well so I googled it and found out that it's because they need to be compliant with new rules around promoting food high in fat, sugar and salt: www.thegrocer.co.uk/crisps-nuts-and-snacks/twiglets-reformulated-to-become-hfss-compliant/667918.article#:~:text=Twiglets%20has%20been%20given%20a,levels%20of%20wholegrain%2C%20it%20said.

Maybe it's the same for Walkers?

Twiglets are now absolutely disgusting, and ironically I used to eat them because they were healthier than crisps!

lollipoprainbow · 26/07/2022 15:37

@Junipar I got a tub last week and they taste totally different almost spicy, used to love them too so disappointing.

blobby10 · 26/07/2022 15:47

I did some extensive research recently to find the best Salt and Vinegar crisps - Tesco Finest and Waitrose own brand are currently joint 1st. Burts a very close 2nd.

The only Walkers ones I like these days are the Sensations that they sell in the massive bags which doesn't do my diet any good at all as who can possibly reseal one of those giant bags and make it last over 4 or 5 days? Or only take out the 30g portion at a time?!!!

TrickorTreacle · 26/07/2022 15:49

For salt & vinegar, Aldi's own-brand is king. Same goes with prawn cocktail flavour crisps. It's something like 66p for 6 x 25g pack.

Ribena. I miss proper Ribena Sad I saw the original being sold on Ebay for about £90

I bought a bottle at the supermarket last week and picked the full fat one thinking it would be original. Nothing like it used to be ☹️ Ribena used to be really thick and you hardly needed to use any. This was thin and had zero blackcurrant flavour. It was literally like drinking pale purple water. Yuk 😩

SPSN · 26/07/2022 16:21

They still sell the normal ones as well as the reduced salt ones. Packet looks almost identical though.

@Blackdiame I love those crisps....just thinking about them and my jaw starts to ache at the thought of all that salt!! 😋 😄

BrightYellowDaffodil · 26/07/2022 16:44

Twiglets have completely changed as well

Nooo! I bloody love Twiglets, all that lovely Marmitey flavour until your mouth puckers.

I'm fed up with food companies mucking about with perfectly good food. I KNOW it's got salt/fat/sugar in, leave it the fuck alone.
