Surely you don’t take a cat on holiday?!

I’m sat in departures at the airport and a woman has an actual car in a carry case.

  1. why would you want to take your cat on holiday?!
  2. how do the practicalities work when you get there with the cat - does it stay in the hotel room?!
  3. the cat is meaowing constantly. It can’t be happy?!
  4. what about fellow passengers who have cat allergies?!

Maybe she isn’t going on holiday?

SwedishEdith · 26/07/2022 10:10

They could be moving. I knew a family moving back to France and yes, their little cat was under their seat on the plane.

Twinsmummy1812 · 26/07/2022 10:12

I took mine to Center Parcs once, she loved it!

Whatsthestoryboringglory · 26/07/2022 10:12

My friend is military and moves every couple of years with her rescue cat. They fly.

YesItsMeIDontCare · 26/07/2022 10:14

I'd love to take my cat on holiday! I don't think he'd thank me very much for it though... 😂

Like PP I don't think she's going on holiday, unless she has a holiday home where she spends a good few months of the year.

WhackingPhoenix · 26/07/2022 10:14

People get on planes for reasons other than going on holiday Confused

Also, allergens are everywhere.

Badgirlgonegood · 26/07/2022 10:15

Not everyone in the airport is going on holiday.

RedCarsGoFaster · 26/07/2022 10:16

We took the cat camping in our caravan once. She loved it.

Your woman could be moving home or anything. Allergies, well that's just one of those things. If you sat near me with animal allergies, I'd probably set you off anyway.

Yes, same here, I've flown with a cat under my seat on the plane when moving countries.

We've also taken our cat on holiday for the past three years (just driving, not flying and using my parents' holiday home or other pet-friendly accomodation). He's elderly, needs to be given medication twice a day and would absolutely hate a cattery or a stranger feeding him.

I am SO jealous! I've been several times and always commented how much mine would LOVE it. He's a house cat who walks in a lead (medical reasons - not something I'd do without very good reason) so he'd have had a whale of a time! Did you have to sneak him in?

HumpreyDowny · 26/07/2022 10:19

People can do what they like op. Dogs bark too, and people have allergies to them too. Normal nuisances of life and living in a human society. I wouldn't even think twice let alone write some judgemental comment to seek sympathy on MN..

YesItsMeIDontCare · 26/07/2022 10:19

*- her in. Sorry 🤦🏼‍♀️

mnahmnah · 26/07/2022 10:21

@HumpreyDowny

who is seeking sympathy?! I’m bored in the airport and asking genuine wonderings i had

It seems it’s more common than I thought 😁

But how do you know that she is going to a hotel?

JazzyBBG · 26/07/2022 10:24

People take dogs on holiday with them which are also allergens. Why not a cat?

BlaseBalletDancer · 26/07/2022 10:25

I was once on a cross channel ferry and one woman opened the door of her cat's travel case to check on it and let it out on the car deck! The whole ferry had to be shut down while the terrified cat was found and captured. Fortunately all ended well but over an hour's delay.

TheCanyon · 26/07/2022 10:27

There was a guy posting on Reddit yesterday, moving back to the UK with their two cats. Apparently you can fly into Paris with them in the cat carrier backpacks as your hand luggage.

UtterlyUnimaginativeUsername · 26/07/2022 10:28

We took our cat away to our mobile home about 25 years ago (I was a teenager, it wasn't my decision!). It was terrible. She cried all the way down in the car. When we got there, she was unhappy because it was an unfamiliar place and we were unhappy because we couldn't open the doors or windows in case she escaped and got lost. Then she cried all the way back in the car. And ever since then, I've had a recurring nightmare that I brought a cat away somewhere and lost it.

I was once travelling home from my dms, walking along a VERY busy Glasgow street with the cat in his carrier. Must have caught one of the catches without noticing as the next thing I knew, he had bolted out his carrier and into KFC. I was pregnant and recovering from heat stroke. Was NOT a fun day.

Lulu1919 · 26/07/2022 10:34

I did t know live animals could travel inside the plane !??!

Spidey66 · 26/07/2022 10:34

I saw a couple on a beach in Cornwall with their rabbit. They told me they always take the rabbit on UK holidays.

CatOnTour · 26/07/2022 10:38

The clue is in the name...

EV117 · 26/07/2022 10:39

If someone had a cat I wouldn’t presume they are going on holiday.
