About that, and before I flea treat which is annually.

But then its under a mattress protector and the sheet and the duvets and then a throw and then dogs on top of that unless some cheeky bugger has wiggled their way under (two might, two do not at all)..

I hoover dog beds every other day, sofa weekly (leather, it wipes off) and throws are washed weekly off sofa and bed.

You need to de-flea.
One of those smoke bombs should do it.
Vacuum your mattress once it's done.

Hyvsvaar · 25/07/2022 22:30

Oh dear no dogs on bed cat has a sneaky sleep every so often

they have those comfy pUpnaps

im not a super clean person but every time the beading is changed (about 2 x a week) the mattress is flipped and hoovered

i do have hay fever/eczema/pet allergy

the mattress topper is also
wafted outside

but I do have RA and rest a lot in bed so I like a clean bed as I’m on it so much

Trainfromredhill · 25/07/2022 22:34

Bed mattress? Never. Our dog doesn’t go on furniture.

ShirleyPhallus · 25/07/2022 22:35

About every 6 months but it’s kinda irrelevant because our dog isn’t allowed on beds or sofas

AnnieSnap · 25/07/2022 22:38

Fleas aside, we don’t hoover our mattress. We turn it occasionally! Regarding fleas, we had them last year, treated the pets (note to self, they won’t be fine without being treated) sprayed furnishings that couldn’t be washed on a hot wash and washed all bedding!

GettinPiggyWithIt · 25/07/2022 22:42

FORGOT TO SAY:

Dog isn’t allowed Upstairs so it’s not like tne bed actually matters in terms of flea avoidance

so : no idea why it’s suddenly an issue

Every few months but dog doesn't go upstairs - it's for dust mites and other undesirables that may have taken up residence

rickandmorts · 25/07/2022 22:48

When I remember and have time which is about once every 12 months 🙈😂 and we have a short haired dog that sleeps in bed and moults a ridiculous amount. At this point we've resigned ourselves to a life covered in hair 🤣

GettinPiggyWithIt · 26/07/2022 07:42

Well my husband thinks it should be done twice a week

Ive told him to crack on 🙄

Chasingsquirrels · 26/07/2022 07:48

How often does he do it then?

Vacuuming my mattress is not something I've really thought about doing.

Bednobsbroomsticks · 26/07/2022 07:49

Just hoover the dog instead

CalistoNoSolo · 26/07/2022 07:53

Never. And my dogs do go on the bed occasionally.

CalistoNoSolo · 26/07/2022 07:54

Also, if your husband has an issue with this why isn't he vacuuming the bed?

sunsetsandsandybeaches · 26/07/2022 08:02

I've never hoovered a mattress in my life and the dog sleeps in the bed.

The mattress is turned every few months though and the bed left to air completely for about 12 hours once a week when we change the bedding.

EinsteinaGogo · 26/07/2022 08:07

I've never hoovered our mattress - can't imagine I ever will either!

Our lovely dog sleeps on our bed and is allowed (welcomed!) on the furniture.

We do have robot vacs constantly hoovering up his fluff but it's never enough!

Fairislefandango · 26/07/2022 08:15

Your husband is an arse. He can hoover the mattress as often as he sees fit, can't he? I think I've hoovered mine about twice ever. We have a dog and a cat but they don't go on the beds. If your dog doesn't either, I don't see why the dog is even mentioned in this issue Confused.

EV117 · 26/07/2022 08:19

When I’m hoovering upstairs and there happens to be no bedding on the bed, it might come over me to hoover the mattress too - so not often.

Trainfromredhill · 25/07/2022 22:34

Bed mattress? Never. Our dog doesn’t go on furniture.

This ^

I hoover a couple of times a year but not for the dog! He has his own bed.

SarahSissions · 26/07/2022 09:59

Surely your DH can hoover the mattress however frequently he wants???

GooglyEyeballs · 26/07/2022 10:04

My dog is not allowed in the bedrooms, but my cats are. I've only hoovered my mattress if there's been a flea problem which hasn't happened for a long time. But then I hoovered and flea bombed the room and you couldn't go in there for hours because of the flea fumes. When I strip the beds I do spray it with either dettol upholstery disinfectant or antibacterial fabreeze to freshen it up. I second you telling your hub to crack on!

IRunbecauseILikeCake · 26/07/2022 10:11

If you have fleas, my advice is replace all your dogs bedding and blankets. I see this all too often when clients have fleas and they can't understand why they have come back after 6 months even though they de-flead. Also, go to the vet. Don't use supermarket treatment as it's wick (I co-own a dog grooming business) - they are little shites and even if a few cling on, you'll have the same issue in 6 months time.
I recently bought a house and my rule is no dogs on our bed, but they do go on our sofas and they are hoovered daily and properly washed down once a week and we have been grand.

Spidey66 · 26/07/2022 10:31

People vacuum their bed? 😳

TBF the bedroom door is closed against the dog, on the odd occasion she slips in and gets on the bed, it's not for long and surely the bedding which is washed regularly protects the mattress from the occasional dog hair?
