AIBU to ask how much you spend per week on food shop

The increase in everything really seems to be hitting home at the moment!

I live with my husband and 18 month old child. And per week our shopping seems to come to about £80/90 average. This is for all 3 meals every day and general household cleaning supplies when needed. My little one generally eats what we do (obviously a small amount), although he has baby porridge/muesli as well as that's what he likes.

Are we massively overspending or is that about right per week? We usually have to go to another shop a few times a week for things like bread or things we've forgotten but this is minimal!

Just curious how much others in a similar situation spend!

@Chazx seeds, olives, sun dried tomatoes- they are super value at Lidl, really nice and have long sell by dates on. If you could make it to a store somehow (know you mentioned no car) and you have some storage, it could be worth stocking up?
Vegetarian pepperoni I have no solution to - I can understand why your DH loves it, I do as well but haven’t had it for about a year as Waitrose is one of the few places to stock it and I seldom go there.

2 adults and a 1 nearly 2 year old.
45 a week to include nappy pants and wipes for a toddler with a bowel problem (did 5 poos today in the space of 2 hours) 5 cartons of fortified oat milk, dog food, and a gluten free loaf for DH. Then all the stuff for meals including 24 eggs. I probably spend 30 in the supermarket ans then I do bulk some things though at the start of the month, eg I spend 25 quid every 6-8 weeks in home bargains getting 12 tins of beans for 4 quid, cleaning stuff laundry stuff etc so that’s about £5 a week then £5 for treats eg an ice cream out for DD or a croissant from Lidl and a trip to the park and then like £5 for contingencies which takes us to &45

Definitely need to get organised and go to Lidl Zestro. Thanks for the tips 👍

DSGR · 25/07/2022 22:17

@Chazx yes that includes 80% of school lunches plus lunches for DH and I

£35-£40 per week for 2 adults! My LO is 4 months and my MIL kindly gets her milk from Costco so save a small fortune! Once she goes on solids It will be more costly 🤣

Hrpuffnstuff1 · 25/07/2022 22:22

£60 ish 4 people sometimes 5. But we don't eat three meals a day either.
I've not done that for yrs.

gogohmm · 25/07/2022 22:42

£100 for 3-4 adults this includes groceries plus a Gousto box but not meals eaten out or what the kids spend on themselves (they put things into the freezer and fridge plus buy their own treats.) it's about £70 when they were at university

gogohmm · 25/07/2022 22:44

Oh and doesn't include cat food (pets at home) or alcohol (majestic/pub) Confused.

We eat out one main meal a week costing £50-100 depending on how many kids have tagged along conveniently forgetting their wallets!)

Svara · 25/07/2022 22:46

Now up to £55 for an adult and 16 year old teen boy.
