Argh… its an absolute joke,
i will be earning £1120 pm and having to pay £420 out of that just so i can actually work. Thats for my 2 dc to go to breakfast & after school club
how do people manage? How Do both parents work?

It's a lot easier to adjust to if you're used to paying for nursery beforehand - we're incredibly excited for the savings that we'll have 'only' paying £200 a child for wraparound care!

I hear you OP. We're about to have two DC to pay for...Guess it's instead of nursery fees for DS but it is a big amount. And we're in one of the more reasonably priced clubs here, yet they are talking about putting prices up. My salary just about justifies it but there are going to be so many parents mums who will have to give their jobs up to do childcare.

AragornsGirl · 25/07/2022 16:46

As with @TrippinEdBalls , the expense compared to what we paid when we had 2 children in full time nursery is nothing. I’m also lucky that my husband works from home so does school drop off. Are you signed up to the government childcare scheme, as you can still get the 20% contribution for out of school care

WonderingMum2 · 25/07/2022 16:47

It needs to come out of both wages, not just the mothers (unless single parent). Yes it’s hugely expensive but think of it as an investment in your career and future

Louise0701 · 25/07/2022 16:48

A lot won’t be single parents so they will be sharing it. Do you get any benefit too ups?

Ponderingwindow · 25/07/2022 16:59

The child care years are ridiculously expensive. School wraparound programs struggle to break even and staff wages are not generous.

it helps to look at it as an investment in your own future earnings.

OneCup · 25/07/2022 17:01

A childminder might be cheaper.
I agree with you though - it's so expensive. More expensive (comparatively) than nursery considering it's only 2h30 a day, the staff:child ratio is different

EV117 · 25/07/2022 17:03

I think breakfast clubs and wraparound are actually quite cheap compared to hourly nursery and childcare fees. They don’t make much, if any profit. Have you got a tax free child care account? We pay for after school care through that.
