Well for some silly reason I thought I would have a change from my usual Blonde colour and make .This is advertised as Light Ash Blonde ,However seems very dark .Not blonde at all! Does anyone know how soon I can re colour with my old make at all? Is 4 weeks going to be too soon? Help!

Personally, I would try washing more often with a clarifying shampoo. I've also heard that anti dandruff shampoo such as head and shoulders, can lighten hair.

Unless it contains a lightning agent, box colour won't lighten your hair.

Anti dandruff shampoo lifts colour

Been there and done that! I'm an Ash Blonde girl too!

A few points from my experience in the field!

  • Remember that your hair colour will seem much more noticable to you than to anyone else. You may think it's way darker than it was, but chances are others won't notice. When my home hair dye job turned out darker than I intended, I took a deep breath before walking into work the next day, only to find that hardly anyone even noticed.
  • Also, as you probably know, hair colour starts to fade very quickly, especially in the summer.
  • 4 weeks isn't too short a time to redo your hair. You could do it tomorrow if you really wanted, but it would be damaging. 4 weeks is quite reasonable however.
  • Frequent washing of your hair might help to speed up lightening. Some recommend using washing up liquid or laundry detergent, but these will be harsh.
Best of luck. As I say, most people probably won't notice half as much as you do!

Vosene is supposed to be good for this.

Eunorition · 25/07/2022 15:54

Strip it out with ColourB4.

You can fade it a tiny bit with clarifying shampoo but it will be barely noticeable. Just get it gone.

IcedPurple Thank you.I am so cross with myself as the usual colour (same brand ) has served me so well for a long time . This one has a small sachet of shampoo so thought I would try it.I will certainly try washing it a lot! I normally do it around every 8 /10 weeks .My BD and hols in September so desperate to be back to normal by then! 4 weeks will be ideal ! Youre probably right no one else will notice!

I agree with the advice to use anti-dandruff shampoo to lift the colour as that's what I was told when I phoned the manufacturer's advice line when it happened to me.

FlamingoDust · 25/07/2022 19:40

I use the ash blonde (sounds like the one you are describing with the shampoo). The first couple of days it is so dark but after a few days the colour is perfect for me and lasts much better than the non ash blonde on my hair (i have a lot of greys!). Give it a few days then if you aren't happy redye when you need to. I have just done mine today and it is way too dark for me but by Thurs it should be perfect!

Sweetlikechocolate6 · 25/07/2022 19:46

It will wash out fine I’ve done this too and as Flamingo says within a few days it should leave you with the colour you wanted originally

dottiedodah · 25/07/2022 22:46

FlamingoDust /Sweetlikechocolate6 Thank you both .Yes it does seem so dark! The problem was I normally use a light blonde .I liked the sound of the shampoo enclosed and even enquired on the help line and was told this colour was a near match! Feel a little better on hearing it should lighten soon .I think I will try the Head and Shoulders .I think about 4/6 weeks before a re colour?

Are we talking about permanent or semi here? If it's semi, just keep washing it with a clarifying type shampoo and it'll fade naturally, rather than turn the scary orange that the stinking colour strippers leave you with.

I'd definitely get back onto the careline, though, as if all else fails, they might give you a voucher for it. (I remember John Freida had to give out tons of vouchers when their then new mousse colours were turning blondes' hair almost black).

Entwifery · 25/07/2022 23:30

If it's semi or demi permanent, you can wash your hair with washing up liquid (repeat as necessary, you'll see the dye rinsing out in the water) and deep condition afterwards.

If it's permanent dye, you can do a bleach bath to remove it. You would need a bleaching kit (powder bleach and developer) which you then dilute by mixing it with shampoo. Wash your hair with that, letting it sit for a couple minutes in the shower. That should lighten your hair up without being too drastic.
