Lost my patience and feel terrible

My son is an absolute nightmare at the min (terrible two’s) I have also had covid this week so don’t feel great either. I raised my voice for the first time today as I am just so sick of the constant tantrums, my head is pounding and I had had enough, I just said NO! Now that’s enough! I feel terrible

Why? Raising your voice is a completely normal part of parenting. It’s only the “perfect parent” mumsnetters that never ever ever raise their voice. (They’re lying!)

You’re only human, and in a difficult position. Be kind to yourself - it’s not as though you were violent to him.

Feel the feelings, allow yourself to regret it, then forgive yourself, acknowledge that no lasting harm has happened, and move on.

I lost my patience with my 18 year old today and raised my voice. It happens.

I felt awful but we will make up and everything will life will keep going. You will lose your patience many times over the next 16 years. Go gentle on yourself.

Part of raising children is about putting boundaries in place and children need these. Also children don't need perfect parents, children won't be perfect it is too much to live up to. You need to model that sometimes we could do things better or differently and it's not the end of the world if we fall short.

TeapotTitties · 24/07/2022 21:22

Are being serious? It's hard to tell.

If you are, it's a completely normal part of parenting and of life really.

Buddingbudlia · 24/07/2022 21:23

You've never raised your voice for 2 years Hmm😂pull the other one

Gentleness · 24/07/2022 21:24

You are being unreasonable to feel terrible. It's not going to make you feel any better, but it is not the massive deal it feels like right now.
