to think that if I am the customer and I am happy to pick up my lens from the opticians

I should be allowed to?

Because when the postman tries to deliver them they don't go through the letter box and I always have to go to the poxy sorting office to pick them up - long queues, nowhere to park and it takes ages to find the thing anway. So I arranged with the optician for them to be delivered to the shop and for them to send me a letter to let me know they were there so I could go and get them. But yet again this month the lens have gone back to the sorting office. On enquiring politely at the opticians I was told that Lensmail now insist that the lens are delivered to the home address because it's part of the service and the customer pays for it! But I don't want that bit of the service because it makes life harder for me!!! Isn't the customer always right?

yeah, snap, same problem here
but its only every 3 months so i dont mind that much

doggiesayswoof · 18/01/2008 14:51

Oh god - this brings back memories. I now wear my glasses full time, partly because of the unfunny farce that was trying to get the lenses delivered....

Much empathy.

doggiesayswoof · 18/01/2008 14:52

I work f/t, and getting to the sorting office (during the 5 mins that they are actually open) was next to impossible. I gave up and learned to love my specs

harleyd · 18/01/2008 14:53

sorting office is only 2 mins away from me though

My lenses fit through the letter box

OrmIrian · 18/01/2008 15:22

I need a bigger letterbox!

as to go on a "collection only" plan. say that you know some people must do this as you know that not all lenses are available on Lensmail. then shout and stamp your feet til you get your own way. failing that, ask to see the manager. chances are you've spoken to some 16 year old receptionist who doesn't know her arse from her elbow!!

oops!

OrmIrian · 18/01/2008 15:34

I will try tomorrow. I did arrange to do that a few months ago but it seems they have since discovered they 'can't do it'

Snap chequers - mine fit through the letter box as well but the postman would not post them through. I think he thought they might break - v conscientious of him

chipmonkey · 18/01/2008 15:43

OK, I am an optom and don't understand. Practically ALL our patients collect their lenses from us, can you not go directly throught the branch for your lenses?

lazarou · 18/01/2008 15:47

Mine have just started being delivered to me as well even though i have been happily picking them up from the store for a while.
As long as they turn up I don't mind.

soremummy · 18/01/2008 15:47

there is a seperate number now for lensmail it will be on your last pack contact them and tell them you want to stop delivery of lenses and the you will go on a cash scheme. store will order lenses in for you 3mth at a time and you will be sent a card to collect them. tell them sometimes the packs are damaged and the bottles burst inside pack.

soremummy · 18/01/2008 15:49

stores are told to push lensmail btw

OrmIrian · 18/01/2008 16:39

OK. I will try that soremummy. Thanks.

Why not get them delivered to your workplace instead?

OrmIrian · 18/01/2008 16:47

I could do that. Optician's child receptionist suggested it. But I'm not there every day - I work at home 2 days a week. But I simply don't see why I can't choose to have them delivered whereever I want. It seems weird if it's a 'service'.

Sounds like the postman wants the lens if he can't get them through the letter box. How big is this box anyway? . Must be smaller than an Amazon rental DVD envelope and they fit ok!!

OrmIrian · 18/01/2008 16:53

No I think it's probably bigger - squarer than a DVD. But it's still not the point!!!! > WHY CAN'T I CHOOSE WHERE THEY GET DELIVERED TO?

Sorry....

OP posts:
chipmonkey · 18/01/2008 19:19

OrmIrian, I think it is your right to choose!

Mum07 · 18/01/2008 19:26

Have you tried going to a different optician's? do you have a choice where you live? a smaller branch (regardless of the chain) is likely to have a manager who is more hands-on and actually remembers individual customers and can bend the rules ever so slightly to keep said customers happy.
