To be tired of streaming services

We subscribe to Netflix, Disney+, Amazon Prime Video (and now dh wants to add paramount+). I'm finding that they (especially Disney+) buffer lots and are really slow to load. Also the thing you want to watch is never on any of them! My sister came over yesterday and we had the day just the two of us and we were talking about The Shining and reminisced about watching it together when we were teenagers, so we thought we'd sit and rewatch it- but I had to pay to buy it off Amazon because it wasn't streaming on any services. I've had a few things like this with my kids as well and I've ended up having to buy them the dvds (whilst still paying for the streaming services). A while back I wanted to watch Breakfast At Tiffany's but it wasn't on any of the services so I bought the dvd and the other day I was flicking through Amazon Prime and now it's on there, so I bought the dvd when all I needed to do was wait! I know this is a minor problem in life but with the amount things are costing at the moment it feels irritating when you're paying for this entertainment and then what you want isn't on there and I'm just tired of them but dh thinks the kids will be missing out if we don't have them! I'm thinking about cancelling the subscriptions to save money and was just wondering if anyone else has cancelled theirs and if so if they've struggled to find things to watch.

We have no buffering issues since getting full fibre, sounds like an internet issue!

I only subscribe to a couple at a time, but I do much prefer them to live TV.

@Keroppi Yes I did think with the kids stuff on disney+ that you don't see any behind the scenes stuff anymore that you get with dvds

I don't have a problem with buffering but I do find it annoying that so few of the services tell you anything about the potential film to help you decide if you want to watch it though. Disney is awful for that.
I can recommend the free app called "Just watch" which tells you what service is showing what film/programme and if its not streaming, where the cheapest place to rent it is. It saves searching through each service if you are looking for a particular film.

I was coming on to also recommend JustWatch.

I add lots of tv shows /movies I want to watch so I can track when it's free via streaming (or cheapest if I really have to watch NOW)

We are the opposite, we only have streaming and couldn't be without it!
The previous owners snipped the aerial line and the quotes we got to fix it were literally hundreds as they'd have to rewire it all, so we don't have live TV. I miss it sometimes but Disney+ is by far our best value for money.
We have fibre internet though and have never had a problem with buffering

I've gone back to steaming sites. The prices they charge are ridiculous and if I really like something I try to buy it on DVD. Digital only media means you never really own someone, just the rights to access it and they can be withdrawn at any time.

Definitely tv saturation point at the moment. We have sky with paramount plus, netflix, disney plus and amazon barely have time to watch any of it

Maybe it's not about streaming services, maybe you just need a break from TV. Try a different hobby, read a book, do some journaling, listen to music, get out in the garden or the 'great outdoors'

When you are really excited about something and it takes a moment to buffer it's frustrating but you wait because you are actually excited by what you're watching. Whereas when you're not that interested anyway it doesn't take a lot to switch you off completely. Sometimes I think that happens because of the overwhelming Choice other times it's just boredom and no matter what choice there is nothing is right.

So my advice, take a break. If you need to cancel those services, do that. Don't feel that just because you have DIsney you have to 'get your money's worth' by watching it every day. If you do feel that, cancel your subscription.

I totally understand where you're coming from and also miss as someone else mentioned the communal aspect of live tv shows!

There is far too many platforms and choice and therefore cost!

Also like you've pointed out and I found to my frustration a lot of retro decent films are not on any of the platforms eirher which means going and buying a dvd and if it is on there it's got a fee attached but there were many I tried to find and they just weren't even available, good job I still have my dvd player!

I think there just needs to be 1 platform that has it all in one place or a variety of options but on the one subscription!

I'm an 80s baby so I love the old retro films and tbh have massively got in the the great movies channel and great movies action on free view play lately, hardly been on to Netflix or prime and not sure if there's point in keeping them for much longer, my daughter watches stuff on you tube kids and Disney plus atm and tbh were so busy we hardly hve time to get the most out of 2 subscriptions to Netflix and prime!

I remember when we only had 5 channels and honestly felt like enough with the fab amount of dramas you had to be in for to ensure you didn't miss and everyone talked about it as we weren't all watching differnt things.

Eveything has its pros and cons but I think it's had its peak and I personally want access to the golden oldie shows and films instead of keep having to hunt for them on dvd!!
