To not want to stay in an AirBnB that is basically someone's home...?

So for the second time, I've stayed in an AirBnB that appears to just be someone's home, except the host wasn't there.

Food in the fridge, family photographs, laundry in the washing machine, a bag of opened avocados on the surface. Clutter.

It's like the owner has just decamped and left the home to me for the night.

What's going on here? The photographs on AirBnB make the house look like a it is a serviced apartment...but the reality is different.

Does the host actually live here?
Where does the host go when I stay?

Anyone had similar experiences? AIBU to not want this?

It’s grim because OP was under the impression that she would be staying in a serviced apartment (as per the photos) rather than someone’s home. That’s hardly unreasonable of her Hmm

I actually leave essentials in an Airbnb that isn’t my home. Like margarine, cooking oil, milk, squash.

is that grim? I do it to make it as comfortable as possible for my guests

TheDuchessOfMN · 23/07/2022 15:55

No, of course that’s not grim. There’s a difference between leaving some essentials for a guest and leaving your own uneaten food in the fridge.
OP mentioned that some of the food was opened.

The food I leave is open. It’s fresh but not new each time. If I restocked oil, squash, margarine, ketchup etc each time it would cost a fortune. Obviously the milk is fresh.

I voted YABU for continuing to use Airbnb.

Still struggling to see how food, inside a fridge is grim.

But hey, if I expect just a bed, bathroom, empty wardrobe and empty fridge I book an actual hotel not an AirBnB or apartment.

Well then we have different expectations so.

Hmmm so.

i charge 65-95 per night for my place. Be fooked if I restock the cupboards each time!

if people don’t like it they’re not obliged to use it.

When you list accommodation on airbnb
There is a box to Select
Either
Serviced accommodation /
or
Your home where your possessions are.
