Have Covid currently. Been struggling with Long Covid since September. I'm really worried that the new Covid is going to set me back to how I was months ago. Wibu to do an econsult and ask for Paxlovid?

Do you meet the eligibility criteria? You only get it if you’re in a high risk group and have tested positive.

ToppCat · 22/07/2022 19:07

I’m not sure GPs can prescribe it but you should definitely ask.

Community pharmacy can't get hold of it, so I'd say it was pointless. You need a referral to a COVID clinic or respiratory consultant to get it through a hospital.

Couldn’t they refer her to the covid hub that dishes the out?

You have to be part of an eligible patient group - If you’re eligible you will have been sent a letter with instructions on what to do if you have Covid.

What@CoffeeWithNiles said.
People at risk are contacted by the covid hub for treatment. The only thing you can usefully do is check that you are correctly coded at your surgery but the criteria aren't subjective so you will either be eligible or you won't.

Is your GP part of the PANORAMIC trial? If you're within the eligibility criteria and your GP is signed up to it, you could be assigned to take paxlovid or usual standard care (i.e. self care advice)

As someone who recently received one of the anti-virals, I completely understand your worries but the few hospitals that can prescribe these are so under pressure they would not be able to offer to anyone currently who is not extremely vulnerable. So I received them, but my husband who is my carer did not get offered them, and he is struggling now. We also had to travel to a hosptial over an hour away to get them, and my choice was limited as most of them are contraindicated by my other meds. I know others who were not able to get them despite being vulnerable. You also need to start them within 5 days for optimal results.

I do wish you well, the nurse I was dealing with, hpoed they would be able to widen the criteria for offering these drugs but their supplies are currently so limited they are having to prioritise who gets them. I did not deal with my Drs at all when obtaining them.

Thank you.

I'm not sure if I'm eligible - have no health concerns apart from being overweight (and the LC- though I can't me my GP to take me seriously with that!)

100% sure I'm infected - two positive LFTs ☹️ (the smaller one is smeared because I bumped it when scanning it!)
