Ok so ds (7) goes to toilet quite a lot roughly 10-15 times a day. Dr not too worried but decided to get bloods done to check for kidney function and diabetes. Went for appointment this morning as we were leaving nurse said "you can have something to eat now" I'd forgotten to fast him😩 , for breakfast an hour earlier he had a cup of fresh juice, apple, grapes and toast.

Should I ring doctors and tell them or wait for results?

You're going to have to tell them and probably get another test done. If you've ever seen the difference between a test being done with fasting and not fasting you'd understand why it's so important. (I'm not having a go, these things happen!)

Def tell them as it will make a massive difference.

Carlichimp · 22/07/2022 09:13

Just ring reception and tell them, or send an email or message if their website allows. Otherwise they may end up doing lots of unnecessary work if the result comes back abnormal due to eating

Absolutely need to tell them and rebook.

Wait & see what the results are first.
Normally the body controls the blood sugar by means of insulin & other hormones. Blood sugar even if fasted remains remarkedly steady, after a meal it will go up but the body releases insulin to bring it back down.
If the bloods are normal no need to repeat them. If blood sugar is high then tell GP that he had eaten & I suspect they will request they are repeated fasting.
Hope all is OK.

fasting makes no difference to kidney function tests and as I’m assuming they’re looking for type 1 rather than type 2 diabetes, a random glucose is the appropriate test anyway, not a fasting one. So the tests he’s had are fine

Hba1c is the preferred blood test for diabetes. It gives a picture of the blood glucose over the last three months. No fasting required.
I would wait on the results and if ok, no need to repeat.
Presume his urine has been dipped for glucose and infection?
