Any social workers on here ?

Advice please. My son tells me there is a 14 year old out constantly where they hang out. He's out while late 11/12p.m in the dark roaming around.
Is it worth reporting to social services? He's already run away once and sounds vulnerable. Far too young to be out so late IMO.
Or should I just ignore it ?

Have you got any tangible details in relation to who he is/address?

I would report it, though don't think of it as reporting - information sharing. I feel like I say this all the time, but small things like this really paint a picture of a child's life. If everyone ignored the "minor" things, we wouldn't know anything and wouldn't be able to assess risk properly.

It's doubtful anything would come of it, but suppose that child is already known to social services, has a history of going missing etc, is already on a child protection plan - things like what you've described, while taken alone may not seem like a lot may raise concerns and allow appropriate action to be taken.

It’s likely social services are already involved but I’d say if you have any real concerns about any child then phone them. It’s everybody’s responsibility to safe guard but I personally wouldn’t phone them based on my child’s hear say alone

I've seen him out late on several occasions

If you know who the teenager is, or who the parent is, or parents address, then it's worth reporting to social services. If you don't, then the better route would be police via non emergency route. They will usually take it into account when doing patrols, esp the PCSOs, to be able to come across the young person and intervene (and pass on what they've been able to find out to social services)

I rang 101. They aren't interested! An amnoyed call handler said the boy may have a curfew that is agreed with his parents 🤦

The police are not social services. Unless a crime is being committed they are not going to have a remit

If you know the name and address you make a referral to social services.

Thanks. Will do
