Covid testing before visiting newborn

Just wondering what people's thoughts/experiences are when it comes to people meeting your newborn in current covid situation.
UK based so I appreciate that covid is something we are now living with but AIBU to want to protect my newborn from close contact exposure if I can, especially in the first few weeks of life? (baby's not here yet but due soon).
I'm not talking about stopping people from visiting baby or making them wear masks or anything but maybe to politely suggest that visitors take a covid test if they can before they come to the house?
I don't really know how covid affects newborns or how easily they can catch it so am I being over cautious?
Thanks.

I’d test happily if it would make a new mummy happier, but honestly Covid’s the last thing I’d be worried about right now. It doesn’t seem to hit babies all that hard. But the adenovirus that’s been doing the rounds, the flu, RSV — all those I’d be anxious about. Best you can do is ask people not to visit if they’re unwell and make sure all guests wash hands etc.

I would test for sure, just as I wouldn't go to visit a new born with a cold. They have no immunity to it and they can't even take calpol it's the last thing a baby and mother needs

My friend and her newborn are in intensive are with flu - both are in a life threatening situation.
If they had covid as well, I wouldn't fancy their chances, either of them
Flu is very bad right now.

Personally I think good hygeine, limit the number of visitors, and ask for a covid test. I would be happy to do a covid test to visit a new born.
