Stop messing with sanitary pads

I’m so annoyed that people at these companies keep finding ways to “improve” pads.

I used to use Always but then they introduced that hideous scent that literally gave me an itchy feeling all day. I felt like it was burning. Not to mention I could smell the stench of artificial perfume all day. Almost headache inducing.

Recently bodyform have started messing.

I use the night pads as I’m so heavy. Now they are no way near as absorbent, plus the adhesive is not as sticky to the wings don’t stick properly. Bloody awful.

AIBU to think they should stop messing and actually get women to feedback on these “improvements” and “new designs”

YANBU. I use reusable ones now which I much prefer.

SunThroughTheCloudsAt6am · 21/07/2022 07:31

YANBU.

It's one of the reasons I use the no-nonsense incontinence pads instead - no wings (they always knot up for me), good absorbency, no scent - just there to do a job, that they do well.

Saisong · 21/07/2022 07:35

Boots do an own brand that is no nonsense, no smells and seems to do the job. 75p per pack and the night ones are reassuringly big.

PeterPomegranate · 21/07/2022 07:35

I prefer Lil Let pads. They seem most ‘sensible’ - no scent for a start.

WinterMusings · 21/07/2022 07:39

I found the wings only stuck to themselves, not my pants - so just made sure to overlap then underneath.

I couldn't stand the 'scented' ones either, vile things. I had been trying to find reusables that I liked, but my periods stopped before I did. Period pants were a new thing then too. They sound a bit messy but I'd have tried them for the beginning/end & maybe with a pad at the heaviest?

I'm built all wrong (short arms, big tummy) to deal with a moon cup, but I'd have tried those otherwise.

mostly tried to stick with tampons to avoided sickly scented, pads that wouldn't stay where they were needed!!

BarbaraofSeville · 21/07/2022 07:39

I use Aldi own brand. About a third of the price of Always etc, not scented and seem to do the job.

ILoveAllRainbowsx · 21/07/2022 07:40

I can't get on with wings. I use Tesco own nighttime. They have no scent but are not as absorbent as some but are fine for me as I do not have heavy periods.

I wrap some toilet paper around the gusset of my pants and put the pad on that. Find it works much better than wings.

Pinklimey · 21/07/2022 07:42

Where are Aldi not scented? The ones in my Aldi are.

KangarooKenny · 21/07/2022 07:42

I’ve stared using Tena pads. The top layer is a soft cotton, none of that sweaty plastic. They are much more comfortable.
I also use period knickers as well.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 21/07/2022 07:42

I use reusables now. Actually really easy to wash and use, much more comfortable than that sweaty plastic feeling and so much more absorbent. They don’t move or have painful sticky bits. I’m totally converted. Wish I’d used them years ago.

I get mine from Cheeky Wipes.

Panda8383 · 21/07/2022 07:43

I totally agree, I use natracare ones now, they are really good :-) organic and different sizes, I stick to 8 for the start, winged and quite long and then 10 when it gets lighter

Itswaytoohot · 21/07/2022 07:45

Yanbu, who is even buying the nasty scented sanitary pads?

ChagSameachDoreen · 21/07/2022 07:53

Not only that, but boycotting all the brands that call women bleeders/menstruators/uterus owners really cuts down the options.

easyday · 21/07/2022 07:58

Well I'm glad they've made sone changes since u was a kid - very thick wads held in place by belts! First revolution was to make the back sticky. I'd moved on to tampons by the time they got thin - was shocked when my daughter started, I couldn't see how they could absorb much! But period pants are a fantastic invention (used with pads as back up against leaks, not on their own).

BarbaraofSeville · 21/07/2022 07:39

I use Aldi own brand. About a third of the price of Always etc, not scented and seem to do the job.

Aldi have changed them now and they are scented.

FrecklesMalone · 21/07/2022 08:01

I changed to washable ones so much comfier

Poppyblush · 21/07/2022 08:06

Companies need to design packaging that doesn’t rustle when you open them. I remember the horrors of being at school and having to use pads and it was just awful.

OwletteGeckoCatboy · 21/07/2022 08:07

Yanbu my favourite brand pads have gone horrendous. Far too flimsy.

GrowlingManchego · 21/07/2022 08:11

Period pants are much better than any disposable pads. I was sceptical but they hold a lot without leaking.

Kindofcrunchy · 21/07/2022 08:11

Disposable pads used to give me horrific thrush. Switched to reusables a few years back and not issues since

DockOTheBay · 21/07/2022 08:12

Period pants and/or reusable pads are so much better. No smell, no itchy, not rustly plastic and better for the environment too

FailingMotherhood · 21/07/2022 08:12

Scented sanitary pads are the work of the devil. Do I want my flaps to feel like they're on fire? No, no I don't.

Do I want a sickly flowery scent? Also no.

AuntieStella · 21/07/2022 08:13

Kotex or the remaining unscented own brands

Most inco products are scented (that's where 'freshness systems' originated) so be wary of which you choose - big advantage is that they are very absorbent

Trivester · 21/07/2022 08:13

I completely agree.

I changed to the washable kind. I was hesitant because of the cost, because I’m not sure how much longer I’ll need them. But the difference is incredible.

I brought a packet of disposables on holiday this year for convenience. Ugh: sweaty, itchy, smelly, sticky. I can’t believe I bought into the marketing for years.

whenwillthemadnessend · 21/07/2022 08:16

I've not noticed Aldi being scented? Is it really obvious?
