Hi mumsnet,

I don’t post on here , just look for advice for my nephews but I thought I’d give this a go.

Im I’m hospital , I had a procedure this afternoon and because I live alone , had to stay in as there was no one to stay with me.

I want to walk out . I feel so bad , this bed could be given to someone else .
I feel absolutely fine and I’m just fed up. I haven’t eaten in over 48hrs because I had no food at home yesterday and I couldn’t eat for the procedure. I’m so hungry but no one knows if I’m allowed to eat or not now . I’d rather go home and be hungry . I’m also very emotional and I’m not sure why . I haven’t got anything to eat at home but at least I’ll be in my own space .

is it unfair to self discharge? Will they even let me since they’ve made me stay in ?

Yeah the advantage with Nectar is that you can just spend them whenever… but Tesco Clubcard prices are so much cheaper, and the vouchers can be good.

Have you got any other food in the house? Bag of flour? You can make chapati type flat breads in a frying pan with flour and salt.

Mulleryogurt · 22/07/2022 20:39

No I don’t have anything that would make a meal or something that I could cook . No flour . Cheese , oil and seasonings is literally all I have .

How will you mange over the next few days? You can't carry on without food.
If you are within a short walk from a hospital, is there no local church that runs a food bank?
It is quite important, well vital, literally vital, that you fond some food.

You have done SO well in making things more secure for the medium term with all your form filling, but between Olio, local church, or whatever, you need food.

Hi Mulleryogurt, how are you today?
Thinking if you, and fingers crossed!

Mulleryogurt · 24/07/2022 03:39

Thank you supercamp for checking up on me x not doing great , back in hospital but at least I’ve managed to have something to eat here. I do want to go home again though. I haven’t let them know about how I’m struggling yet

Hello @Mulleryogurt

I'm sorry to hear you are back in hospital. I'm just thinking if you could ask to see a social worker in private whilst you are there? They might be able to help improve your circumstances once you leave? If attached a link to their role in you'd like to take a look before deciding.

www.healthcareers.nhs.uk/explore-roles/wider-healthcare-team/roles-wider-healthcare-team/clinical-support-staff/social-worker

They might be able to speed up some of the processes or at least help to fill the gap whilst you are awaiting your universal credit, council tax discount, etc. 🌹

If you're in South Manchester please message me. I volunteer for a brilliant charity that would help you.

cocktailclub · 24/07/2022 08:51

@Newestname002 social worker is a good idea
Or can you ask to see a hospital chaplain and explain to them
Churches often provide food or support and he or she could link you in with a local group

Tiani4 · 24/07/2022 09:14

Our local church does food parcels and you don't need to meet any criteria to collect one

Can you look online ? Search up food boxes and church and your area on Google

SuperCamp · 24/07/2022 12:51

OK, thanks for letting us know you are in hospital.
I am sure that must be discouraging, and it’s not home, but please make the best of meals and refreshments. It’s ok to take biscuits from the tea trolley to take home, etc.

I think the suggestion to talk to a social worker or chaplain in confidence is a good one.

Thinking of you today.

SuperCamp · 24/07/2022 12:55

Can I ask, were you able to tell the doctor and / or nursing staff that you were not eating regularly in the run up to your first admission, or after your procedure?

That’s a physical, medical fact they need to know, to help support your recovery.

Are they aware of your MH struggle?

Sorry to ask so many questions, you don’t have to tell me, just something to thing about for any conversations with the staff.

BlanketsBanned · 24/07/2022 12:59

Sorry you are back in hospital, are you ok. Please speak to the nurse about not having any food at home, they really will help you.

Mulleryogurt · 25/07/2022 00:01

Thank you everyone . They are aware of my mental health struggles , it’s actually why I’ve ended up back at the hospital . Been assessed and home now , they said someone will be in contact to discuss how they can help me with not being able to afford things and also been encouraged to apply for a second job

That sounds like the start of a support network for you Mulleryogurt. Though I know services are threadbare so hopefully actual help will be quick and effective.

You did really well to get your UC application in.

Keeping my fingers crossed for you.

Mulleryogurt · 25/07/2022 09:52

Thank you . I have my fingers crossed too . Going to spend today looking for a second job

Excellent! Good luck!
Round us bars and restaurants are desperate for staff… and my son always got a staff meal working in restaurants 😉

SuperCamp · 26/07/2022 11:49

Sending you more best wishes and positive vibes for today Mulleryogurt.

SuperCamp · 27/07/2022 23:59

How are you feeling after the job hunting, Mulleryogurt?

And did the hospital people follow up?

How are you?
