Having refuse collections weekly in the heat

Should we have our bins collected more often in the heat. Every 2 weeks is quite alot in the hot weather. Flies and smell etc?

3 of my bins are on a 3 week cycle (general waste, paper and card, mixed recycling). The food waste is every 2 weeks

We get maggots in the food bin every summer despite double bagging.

The rubbish always used to be collected every week here until they stupidly changed it a few years ago to once a fortnight.

I think it’s completely unsanitary for anyone to have their rubbish collected this infrequently, but for some people it’s far worse. We until recently had 2 children using nappies, a cat whose cat tray contents needed to be emptied, and the waste of 2 dogs from our garden to be disposed of. It’s disgusting that that type of rubbish should fester for so long.

Weekly here thankfully, although for a family of 3 we put out one small bag of general and 2 of recycling each week but trying to cut back on the amount a bit more

Did you know that the council have to pay to send rubbish to landfill?

Where I live it is approx £150 per tonne. A bin wagon can hold about 7.5 tonne. Most wagons fill twice per day. There are 10 rounds in my local authority alone. So that's £22.5k per day in one local authority. Just to dump the stuff. Never mind the increased staff and vehicles needed for more frequent collections.

I’m not sure what the problem is with fortnightly collections - our rubbish is in a bin liner in a lidded wheelie bin. It does sometimes smell when I open the lid to put something in but the lid is immediately closed again.
If people want more frequent collections, would you be happy to take your rubbish to a communal bin on the street corner which could be emptied daily? That would be a lot quicker for the binmen

do that sometimes, especially if we are going away and we miss the collection. The rubbish dosent get collected for 3-4 weeks then so just put in a normal bin outside.

Ours are on strike. They are only collecting food waste and non recycling stuff. No paper or plastic collections, but at least the food waste is going.
