Cockroaches and flying spiders AIBU?

We are in a pretty grubby, cramped Airbnb in New York with my husband and two children aged 12 and 16. We’ve had several cockroaches and yesterday a huge red flying spider in the bedroom. (Let’s not go into not being able to put any tissue at all ij the loo and having to put in a bucket provided instead. Or stains on the walls. Or…I could go on).
my husband and I have had a MAJOR falling out, I am refusing to stay here. He says it’s just nature in New York.
Am I being a snow flake and need to grow a pair or should we make like the wind and get the hell out of here? Is it normal to have cockroaches in Airbnb?
we are all pretty miserable but maybe I’m just not used to it and it’s going to be like it everywhere.

Sounds grim, but spiders don't fly/can't fly. It's called 'falling with style.' 😆 Still creep af though!

Cockroaches fly though, especially the big ones!!

I imagine you're sorted by now but we've stayed in the Hampton Inn Manhattan/Times Square Central which was a perfect no frills hotel. The selling point for us was that it included breakfast but it was a bit of a zoo and it was more pleasant to get breakfast out and about. Room was decent though with a good big shower.

We also went for drinks in the lobby lounge bar of the Hilton Times Square over the road. Didn't get past the reception area but it had a good first impression, staff were friendly and it was clean.

We’ve stayed at the Doubletree by Hilton Times Square West recently and it was lovely. Really central too. Close enough to walk the high line and Central Park.

I would also move, OP!

Thank you everyone. We have a movie’s worth of film of the place, photos, and my husband has admitted he also thought it is an absolute shithole and he wanted to pretend it was ok enough to get through the next few days. He’s still pissy with me, but we’ve been for a lovely swim at a local outdoor swimming pool for residents only but was allowed in as guests of one of our family members. Really lovely and local and not touristy and we feel happier now.
even without cockroach and other flying insect photos there is enough to show it’s not as advertised and disgusting. If we can get refunded great, if not, we will have to chalk it up to a learning curve.

We’ve booked 2 nights at the Hilton Garden Inn Central Park South to make sure we are happy there then will extend. I am feeling calmer now even though not sure if our rooms are near each other (booked two rooms so we can breathe a little. My hubby and 16yr old may fall out for good if they don’t have some space). Tbh right now we need space, comfort and to feel a little less grubby so if not close to each other we will manage fine. We are not near the family but they will be coming to NYC for a show with us, which we already had planned and they are only half hour from us.

I think while I was in it, I felt yucky but not sure I was right to feel that way, now, looking at some of the photos, well. OMG. I might even post a couple of photos here!

😮😮😮 I’ve just looked them up!
it might have been one! I feel sick ABs OH says I should stop googling as it’s not going to end well for me as I don’t know for sure what it was. Expect big, heavy, and scary. He actually removed it but says he didn’t look at it. Think he’s lying. But probably best I don’t actually know.

Much of NY is horrible.
Maybe go somewhere else next time (or at least book into a decent hotel, not a cheapie Airbnb)
