Hi

Posting for traffic on AIBU

Has any one visited North India? The areas we are looking at are :-

Dehli
Agra (Taj Mahal)
Sawai Madhopur
Jaipur
Barli
Udaipur

Did you enjoy? Did you have to take Malaria tablets? Anything that really put you off?

It is hotel stays, with a family stay at Agra.

Thank you.

If you eat street food (which is often very good) make sure it is hot and freshly cooked and hasn't been sitting on the stall for hours. Resist any uncooked sauces being ladled on as they are likely to have had water added and you will later regret that. Freshly squeezed fruit juices often have sugared cold water added that could contain bugs too. You have to make sure the vendor just gives you the juice without addition.

I’ve been all over India (in the 90s) and have been to all the places you mentioned. In the north, my favourite destination was Jaisalmer, further to the west. Agra, Udaipur all Ok if very touristy.
Honestly, I wouldn’t return for two reasons. The main one being the serious societal problem of the rape of women and the lack of action against it. And secondly a similar lack of action against poverty. Both issues could be improved with government action but until then I’ll boycott the place.

We visited these places just before Covid, went in January. Perfect tourist weather.
We didn't take Malaria tablets, wasn't highlighted to us as a possible concern but did take a lot of gut medication, came on real handy!
We had a driver for delhi-agra-Jaipur who organized our tour guides. Not as expensive as it sounds and definitely worth it. Food was amazing and for the most part everyone was friendly

Yes, I traveled across India, didn't take malaria tablets, though was careful about certain foods and drank lots of water. I can see where people were coming from re Agra, it was hectic and very touristy but still beautiful to see in spite of the usual aggressive peddling of tat. The harsher side was the reality of the poverty in places, with some heart-breaking sights, particularly child beggars. Lots of different experiences and feelings in one trip but highly memorable.

My brother did a similar tour in April. He enjoyed it but it was very hot and humid (in the low 40s). I would prefer to go earlier if possible.
