How much ice cream/lollies are you giving to you little ones?

Have basically stocked up on ice lollies, icecreams etc. My freezer looks like an icecream shop atm. Its all my little ones are asking for. And ive given in due to not wanting them dehydrate in this heat.
I bought the healthy frozen yoghurt ones with no added sugar and the pure fruit juice ice lollies - theyre expensive but we have now ran out. The shop that stocks them near to me have also ran out so iv basically been given them normal ice creams lollies- fruit pastels twisters, nobbly bobbly etc.
Im not too fussed with my 4 year old as she is the world's best eater and eats all her veg etc. Its my 20 month old who is the world's fussiest eater and has only gotten worse with the heat so so is hardly eating (which I get as us adults can be the same) but so far shes had a fruit pastel lolly, ice pop and going to give her a mini milk now as shes all hot and bothered.
How much is too much? Im worried if shes going to get addicted and just expect it everyday 😶😑

I just freeze cucumbers. Far better to suck on a frozen cucumber than consume unnecessary sugar.

It’s normal to have a smaller appetite in the heat though

would they eat cold hard boiled eggs? Toast?

cous cous with buttermilk/ yoghurt

greek yoghurt with (frozen) fruit

cold pasta salad with chopped mozzarella and tomatoes or pesto?

fish fingers?

You can get fruit pierogi with sour cream and sugar from the Polish shop that’s also good in the heat (blueberry is a fav for us)

pancakes with sweet or savoury toppings (might get hot making the though)

pizza?

any veg they would normally have served cold

Mine had one when they got in from school and then watermelon later on. We've got through two whole watermelons.

Notthisonemummy · 19/07/2022 15:40

I'm happy for 3.5 DS to have as many as he likes - it's boiling hot and he has barely eaten anything since Saturday yet does not stop moving (we are lucky enough to have a stand alone pool, so he has pretty much lived in that since we put it up last week). As it turns out, he only wants an average of 1 ice cream and 1 fruit ice lolly a day; otherwise he has just been grazing on fruit and small sandwiches. I can't get too worked up about the sugar - he brushes his teeth, keeps active and doesn't have many sweet things anyway, so a few extra ice creams if he wants them is fine. We can go back to a more varied diet when it cools down and he actually wants to eat more than a few mouthfuls.

Shudder

I had the same thought about frozen cucumber 😆

CarpeVitam · 19/07/2022 15:56

Don’t worry it’ll be fine. My son pretty much only eats lollies and cold toddler milk even in winter he has 3-4 lollies a day so in this weather he’s had approx 8 per day and he’s fine !!

I'm relieved that at least one person knew I was taking the piss 🤦‍♀️

Elevenerifebruv · 19/07/2022 18:01

Too many. Nearly as many as me Blush

carefullycourageous · 19/07/2022 18:05

Yes plenty here, it is only two days so I am not worrying about it.

Notanotherwindow · 19/07/2022 18:08

Don't know about the kids but I'm two cornettos in and so is my boss. We haven't started the ice lollies yet though.

ItsJustASimpleLine · 19/07/2022 18:09

As many as they want, they're 4 and 8. It's 2 days of heat I think we all need to do what we can to stay cool. Brush their teeth as usual and try to get through.

bellsbuss · 19/07/2022 18:18

When the weather is like this they can have as many as they like

mumda · 19/07/2022 18:19

I've had a strawberry Cornetto and a salted caramel nut nujj (or whatever it is called)

bellsbuss · 19/07/2022 18:19

If I gave my children frozen cucumber instead of ice lollies they would either throw it in the bin or at me Grin

ThreeLittleDots · 19/07/2022 18:23

One a day but out of want rather than need. It's been no more than 25C indoors with the windows & blinds closed.

LuciferRising · 19/07/2022 18:29

Tinned apricots or peaches blend lovely and make good lollies.

Must be the life and soul at your place! 😁

DixonD · 19/07/2022 18:32

Oh, ignore me, I see you were joking but this is MN. I expect there are people out there who do just that!

It's even funnier that people thought you weren't!

DockOTheBay · 19/07/2022 19:03

Mine had a watermelon lolly yesterday and a mini milk today (5 and 2 year olds) but we aren't in the hottest area (35 degree today I think it was)

Doubleraspberry · 19/07/2022 19:09

My daughter would actually quite like a frozen cucumber I expect! She adores cucumbers. She’s been making do with strawberry lollies though, poor child.

PipinwasAuntieMabelsdog · 19/07/2022 19:11

We have the Claudie and Fin mini ones for the children, which they have had at breakfast time, with some fruit for the last 2days and at snack time if they ask. If we only had uber chocolately things in the freezer, I think I'd still be fairly relaxed, given as it's such a short time (hopefully)! Have been mainlining squash into them too. Normally only allowed with meals, but it's too hot to worry about that atm.
