To feel down about the state of Covid?

My family just got our first infection and so I’m just pondering things and feeling pretty down about the fact that Covid isn’t going anywhere and this is our life now. Masks and worry and not knowing what repeated infections will mean for our and our kids futures. Not to mention future lock downs, ongoing masks (in our country anyway) and general hesitation for life to get back to normal. Sitting here just worried sick my kids will be the ones who have a negative outcome etc.

Is it just me and the fact that I’m in the thick of it?

I doubt we’ll ever see lockdowns here again, obviously no idea about Japan. People wouldn’t stand it. It’s not something I worry about.

Just want a super effective vaccine Or something to extinguish the thing.

We'll probably get that eventually, though it might take many years. We will develop more immunity in time, or at least we have for every other CV out there.

I think we have to accept that for the next while, our health will be a bit worse and there's one more thing to worry about out there. But I can't say it's impacting my life hugely. I had it in Feb, it was barely noticeable, I'm conscious I can easily get it again and get it much worse, but I'm not prepared to curtail my life further, so it's a risk I'll have to take.

Most pandemics "end" by the virus becoming less deadly, see the common cold, and we end up just living with them. There's not going to be this neat point where it no longer exists.

For me the frightening thing is the accumulation of all these issues that seem to be connected. Growing inequality, greed, out of control consumerism are causing us to keep accelerating the destruction of our planet. Consequences are not just Covid but other inevitable pandemics we will see, poverty, starvation, wars. It’s really frightening and I can understand why people would rather pretend it’s either no big deal or some kind of government conspiracy. I don’t see any way out.

Gen Zs are criticizing boomers, gen x & millennials for this (and everything else) but I don’t see them changing anything. Certainly not with the narcissistic hyper-individualism that defines their generation.

I guess we don’t know what is coming though. Previous generations dealt with the same and worse - famines, plagues, global wars, threatened nuclear Armageddon. We just have to prepare our children as best we can and try to do our part. DH and I are looking to move somewhere as isolated and meteorologically stable as possible where we can grow our own food. Hopefully in the next few years.

Sorry, this probably doesn’t make you feel better, but you’re not alone in being worried. I guess try to appreciate all of the good things that you do have like your child - people have love and joy even in dire circumstances. And maybe look to move away from Japan to somewhere less populated if possible.

I'm worried about how long this weird half way house thing we have going on will continue but other than that, no.

Good luck with that. You may get some other deadly disease and not have access to appropriate healthcare. Be careful what you wish for.

Masks and worry isn't a part of my life any more. We've all had it. We go when we're called for boosters.

No more testing and masks and the rest of it any more.

That’s a really good way to describe this whole thing.
