To ask boss for a loan

I need a loan in order to help my dd out at Uni as it turns out she will have a bit of a cash flow problem this coming academic year. It’s a couple of thousand pounds I will need to ask to borrow, until my dd receives her 3rd student loans instalment next spring. WIBU to ask my boss (owner of the medium sized company I work for) to loan me the money? We are on good terms obviously, and I believe he has loaned money to other employees in the past. Is there any reason anyone can think of I shouldn’t ask? I realise I’d be making myself a bit vulnerable in terms of being in debt to the company, but I’m not looking to change job in the near future. Wish I didn’t have to ask to be honest but don’t see an alternative way at the moment.

Are you in a union through work? My union offers loans for times of need (rather than for holidays etc), that could be an option?
I think asking my boss would be a very last resort but sometimes the last resort is what you need to do. No judgement from me, I know what it feels like when there are no other choices.

No, I think its inappropriate.

I think it is fairly easy to get credit cards. You could spread amounts over a few of them. You could do a few extra hours to help.pay the interest. This will be more transparent for you than asking your boss as you will know what the attitude and requirements are of the card company. You'll never quite know with your boss what he feels, any underlying reservations or change of attitude.
I think it is great you are prioritising helping your daughter and, please, don't feel dis-spirited. I don't feel judgemental, and I know what it's like to be in a tricky situation. Being fantastic with savings isn't the only skill which matters in life, and everyone's circumstances are different. I think you are thinking in the right way and I wish you both lots of good things, this coming year.

Thanks for the encouragement @Diverseopinions . Yes I agree I’ll never know what he really thinks, best to keep it with credit cards rather than involve him unnecessarily.
