Would you whisk your laptop away for a week?

My daughter starts school in September and I wanted to take her on holiday to a caravan park with kids entertainment before then.

I've suddenly just come across a good of good deals that are last minute. Looking at Monday 25th for a week. I work two days a week so I messaged my manager earlier to see if I could book next week off. She replied saying she would check but hasn't gotten back to me yet. I work from home. Would I be crazy to book the holiday anyway and work those days from the caravan? I could start really early and be finished by 2pm. Daughters dad will also be coming so it's not like my dd will be neglected during this time.

As long as you can get the Wi-Fi you need in the caravan, I'd so go for it. It's a great idea 😃

YANBU, I'm planning to for this for the majority of the 6 week holidays

We've booked accommodation by the sea for the summer so will work a few hours in the morning then enjoy the rest of the time with DS

Will you get an internet connection? Caravan places I have stayed at only seem to o have WiFi in specific areas of the parks.

scorpiogirly · 18/07/2022 16:31

I would obviously have to check that I will be able to get WiFi in the caravan. I would have to stay there for most of the day incase I need to take any calls

Does your employer have a policy on using public Wi-Fi for work? Mine does not permit that.

BigSandyBalls2015 · 18/07/2022 16:34

I regularly take my laptop to my DDs to stay a few nights and work there, quite often I don't bother telling my manager. As long as the work is done they don't mind where we are. I wish my DH had a wfh office type job as we'd book a villa for about three months and work from there!

BigSandyBalls2015 · 18/07/2022 16:35

Would be more enjoyable to be on leave though and enjoy the whole week with your DD.

Just thought of something else ... reception children usually start later than the other kids so wouldn't it be much cheaper and less busy to go early Sept?

Harridance · 18/07/2022 16:41

Loads of people do it, I've worked from all sorts of places

cormorant5 · 18/07/2022 16:55

In case of poor internet investigate and practice "tethering your phone" to give you the contact.

Harridance · 18/07/2022 16:58

You can buy portable wifi hotspots

scorpiogirly · 18/07/2022 17:03

Dd starts on 5th of September.

I did wonder about using my phone as a mobile hotspot but I'm not sure if this would cost a fortune. I have 89gb left out of 100gb which refreshes 2nd of every month. If I save this now would that be enough for 2 days work?

Depending on where you're going, just be aware that the WiFi may be somewhat inadequate compared to what you might be used to at home.
Rural / costal locations often have slow internet due to old telecoms infrastructure and long distances from the phone exchange / cabinet. Few will have fibre optic cables. Don't rely on mobile data either - there may be no or very weak signal.
