To not do the 48hr test for hair colour

Just wanting some feedback really - haven’t colored my hair for over 20 years but used to just go for it - no test. Does anyone actually do the test?

Never done the test at home or in my many dye sessions st the hairdresser

OldEvilOwl · 18/07/2022 14:43

I never do it

craftsupplyhoarder · 18/07/2022 14:59

To be honest, I've never done the test. I know I'd be kicking myself in regret it if something went wrong, though...

mumda · 18/07/2022 15:00

Imagine your head on fire and being unable to stop it feeling like that for about 3 weeks.

Do the test.

I will confess I’ve never actually done one.
not sure how you’re meant to with the home dyes that you mix up-do you have to get a whole other packet just for the test? Or let it sit there for 2 days once mixed up?

Read the instructions. It tells you how to do one

PegasusReturns · 18/07/2022 15:02

Do the test.

My hairdresser ended up in hospital after a formulation change in a product she used all the time. Very frightening.

CPandme · 18/07/2022 15:06

Yabvu - for yourself all the reasons previous posters gave . For society health services are already struggling and don’t need to be dealing with and paying for absolutely preventable injury.

I believe you but I don't think it's that commonly done. Like I said I've been to many different salons, ranging from cheaper to expensive and never had it mentioned. Nor have I ever heard someone say they were popping in to the salon to get their patch test done.

Agreed! I’m stunned, I’ve never even heard of this! I thought I’d always followed the leaflet instructions to a T when doing home kits, and I’ve never seen a patch test mentioned. Likewise in salons - never once suggested. I had no idea this was a thing.

Bluevelvetsofa · 18/07/2022 15:11

Every hairdresser I’ve ever been to has done a patch test. I go for a consultation and have a patch test at the same time, with an appointment later.

Wellthatsachangeforthebetter · 18/07/2022 15:14

I cant believe all the people who go to hairdressers that dont patch test. I have never been to one that doesnt and i have been to loads.

Yodaisawally · 18/07/2022 15:15

Another one here who developed random dye allergy after dyeing my hair for over ten years. Do the test.

Bournetilly · 18/07/2022 15:22

I would happily have mine done without the test but whenever I’ve been to a new hairdressers / salon theve always said they have to do the test.

It's really commonly done where I am. They won't go near you unless you've had a colour test within 6 months.

It’s a home fo it yourself affair - not hairdresser. But thanks for all the input. Going on holiday Saturday and definitely don’t want to risk a bad outcome and ruin the holiday

I would.. I am actually allergic to one of the ingredients in the Wella and Alveda ranges. This developed quite suddenly after many years of colouring my hair.

I'm fine with all the Davines range though - absolutely love their products
