To think that if you cancel your service you tell your customers?

I'm scheduled to make a 200 mile rail trip tomorrow. The rail company have my email and have confirmed a seat reservation on a given train.

On Friday evening I heard the company were cancelling some trains. I checked their website and found that my train was one of those cancelled. They did not contact me. The train half an hour earlier was still available so I transferred my seat reservation to that train, and they emailed me confirmation.

This morning I have discovered they have cancelled ALL trains tomorrow, but they've not contacted me.

AIBU to think they should have the ability to send an automated email to everyone with tickets booked for that day?

That's really frustrating, OP. Who did you book with? I use trainline and usually get an email. Fairly last minute sometimes, but I assume that that's just because they're last minute changes.

I have a season ticket and just got an email telling me to try not to travel and that trains will likely be cancelled at short notice. I think they managed to run one on my line in the morning?!

YANBU I received emails from both the train company and Trainline that my train today was cancelled early Saturday morning.

WhateverHappenedToMe · 18/07/2022 12:59

I booked direct with the rail company.

That’s a poor show.

Are you going on Wednesday instead? Although whether the buckled tracks will be fixed by then is another question ….

WhateverHappenedToMe · 18/07/2022 19:59

@GreenClock No. I have a meeting that starts at 10:00 on Wednesday and, in normal circumstances, would need to leave home at 05:45 to get there - which is exactly why I'd arranged to go up on Tuesday and stay in a hotel.

Every rail company I have used for the last four years or so has contacted me about the heat and their services, bar one. YANBU to expect contact.

If they cancel your train the day before it means they don't have to pay compensation I believe. We travelled to and from England the last two fridays, luckily our train wasn't cancelled(the two before and one after were though from York to Edinburgh) and we had booked seats that I wasn't giving up for anyone, I asked nicely and was well prepared to sit on their knees if they wouldn't move. A mum and two small toddlers were sitting on the aisle, our kids shuffled over so the kids could sit. Our luggage and a lace with a buggy were in the toilet.

trains are a bloody nightmare atm.
