Separate bedrooms or chain fan to bedside table?

Lighthearted....for now at least...

There are 2 big and 2 small fans in the house. I purchased the bigger ones during the last heatwave to keep everyone cool.
1 big and one small fan in the living room, 1 big in our bedroom and 1 small in the kids room. Luckily kids don't mind the heat at night.

DP comes upstairs late and the last 5 nights DP decided to move the big fan in our room and put it on rotate to get some air moving. Makes sense, but Ive told him that its too hot with LO bed hopping. I normally wake up at 3am in a big sweaty mess with LO draped over me and can't sleep. Also have to take medication that makes we sweat more and end up knackered the next day.

Tonight I said enough is enough and told DP to bring up other big fan with him when he comes to bed so we could have two big ones on while it's hot. DP says no we don't need the extra fan and I can't really be that hot and one fan is more than enough. As he does the switch when I'm asleep I don't notice until the 3am hot sweaty wakeup.
Luckily we can afford 2 nights of 3 fans without too much bother, so money isn't the issue.

I'm determined to get a decent night's sleep tonight and currently have both big fans in the bedroom. If DP moves the fans or switches them off tonight aibu to either send him packing to bedhopping LO's bed or chain the fan to my bedside table?

Like a lot of people I don't do well in the heat and DP taking control of the fans isn't helping

It isn't clear what he is doing with the big fan other than put it on rotate. Why does that make you hotter?

Shoxfordian · 18/07/2022 05:48

He shouldn’t be telling you what you do and don’t need to use to cool down

Does he usually like to tell you how you feel?

ivykaty44 · 18/07/2022 05:51

Tell him

“its not all about you”

you want the fans & otherwise without sleep you’ll get extremely grouchy

HannahSternDefoe · 18/07/2022 05:55

I'd sleep downstairs (it's cooler - or was at 3.15am when I got up) and let him sort out the DC. Grin

I would sleep in a separate room if I could. When we have these infrequent heat waves I follow the advice of my friend who lives in Australia, this is what they do when they have power cuts.

wet a towel right through and squeeze it out, lay under said wet towel, alone. Works better than any fan.

Impracticalbongos · 18/07/2022 06:18

I may be missing the point but you have chains in the bedroom...

Ggu · 18/07/2022 06:22

Why don't you just bring up the other fan?

Campervangirl · 18/07/2022 06:53

I hear you OP, my oh has the big fan on his side of the bed then turns on his side and blocks the air from hitting me 🙄
He neeeeeds it on his side or he can't sleep 🙄
I Otoh, a menapausal mess, lays sweating all night
Any chance you could provide an alibi for when I smother him with his pillow? 😉

BananaBender · 18/07/2022 07:04

Chain him downstairs in the living room and have both big fans to yourself in the bedroom.

stuntbubbles · 18/07/2022 07:07

I’d sleep downstairs where it’s cooler, with three fans, and he can deal with all night wakings.

hennaoj · 18/07/2022 07:10

Take the big fan up and if he complains, again buy another one. Repeat until he gets the message. (Joking). He's being a dick. Get the children a big fan though, at least one of mine has a nasty habit of vomiting if he gets too hot at night.

Sexnotgender · 18/07/2022 07:20

Just take the other fan up yourself. You don’t need his permission.
