To park where I did?

I went to visit a friend tonight - I haven't seen her since before lockdown. She lives in a social housing flat and the area is a bit of a rabbit warren. You have to park on the road and walk through an archway to her block and press the buzzer to be let in. I parked on the main road beside the archway. The road has garages on one side with a parking area, that was full, and the other side of the road is the front of either town houses or ground floor flats.

As I walked through the archway, I heard someone knock on their window and an old lady opened her window and told me I couldn't park on the road. (I can. It's the public highway, there are no signs telling me I can't, it's not got any dropped kerb areas and there was nobody else parked there). I asked her why and she said "A lot of us here aren't well and we need space if an ambulance needs to come." She asked me how long I was going to be and I said 10 mins, she seemed happy with that. I actually stayed an hour, and nobody needed an ambulance. If they had, there was oceans of road for one to park on.

Am I OK to park there, or am I not?

Glad you stayed an hour! Honestly these busy bodies do my head in! I always remember a few years ago I used to park on a road near work, a massive road that could easily get two bin lorries down side by side, not blocking anyone's drive, no yellow lines, no dropped kerb, all legal! And some twat put a note on my car saying if I parked their again (even though I'd been parking there for months by now) that they were going to call the police on me 😄 you bet your sweet ass I kept parking there 😆 still waiting for the popo to come get me!

You already know the answer.

You do sometimes get people getting possessive about "their space" but nobody has the right to have the space outside their house / flat / bungalow left empty (unless it is marked for disabled space or residents parking).

OMG - I've had this said to me before when I parked sensibly and legally on a road to pick up a friend "what if an ambulance comes?". I asked if one was coming and she said "no but one might".
strange behaviour.

Some people love something to moan about. Used to have a neighbour like this couldn’t stand the witch. You do you. Ignore the twat.

Yes thanks, I thought I was OK but I began to second-guess myself, even though I know the Highway Code!
