Just that really, an additional placement so that there is more time to have met all of the teachers standards.

Is this a good or bad thing?

dontyoubother · 17/07/2022 17:51

Yes. In Scotland in the equivalent degree (PGDE) if you fail a placement you do another in the next academic year.

Testina · 17/07/2022 17:52

Why do you ask? Yes I’m aware. What’s your actual question?

Areil · 17/07/2022 17:55

Yes. I knew this. What's the relevance of this?

Butchyrestingface · 17/07/2022 17:55

I am now, that I've read your thread title.

What's your AIBU?

Sounds like a good idea, some trainees are woefully under-prepared for full time teaching. However, they would struggle to get a job in the middle of the school year.

mycatisannoying · 17/07/2022 17:58

I'm a qualified secondary school teacher.
If I had failed any of my placements - or needed extra time to meet the criteria - I'd have jacked it in.
It wouldn't have been the job for me.

howdoesatoastermaketoast · 17/07/2022 17:58

Yes, some people plan to take two years from the start others do it as they haven't passed a placement / made adequate progress and another placement will help.

mycatisannoying · 17/07/2022 18:01

It's a bit more brutal here in Scotland though. If you don't make the grade, you don't get on the Council's list for teaching jobs.
It's competitive enough if you're good, so I can't imagine there's much room for failure.
