DLA - mobility

Does anybody know how to apply for the mobility element of DLA once a child turns 5?

Does the huge 40 odd page document have to be filled in again? Or is there another way?

They currently get middle rate DLA Care, and more than likely qualify for lower rate mobility but can't apply for that until they turn 5.

When does their current award end?

sallladfiingers · 17/07/2022 12:40

I can't remember exactly without referring to the letter, but it's a long way off yet, I think perhaps age 12.

Phone and ask for a change of circumstances form. If no change to care you can just tick no change to that section and just fill out mobility. Be aware that they can look at your entire award regardless though.

sallladfiingers · 17/07/2022 12:43

Circumstances haven't changed since we first applied, it's only been a year or so, it's just a case of applying for the mobility element.

I remember the form was horrendous to fill in, so hoping to avoid that if at all possible Grin

Does anybody know if the Change of circumstances form is available online to print? Or postal only?
Can't find it anywhere

It's the same form has the claim form but you just fill out the mobility section and put a letter in explaining that the care part has changed you just want to apply for mobility element.

You may be able to fill out just the mobility section this time but you have to keep refilling the large forms every 2 years anyway. Get used to it.

x2boys · 17/07/2022 13:20

They will send you a change of circumstances form a few months before their fifth birthday.,that's what happened with my son .

11Hawkins · 17/07/2022 13:20

Apparently I can't type at all today. MN needs a edit button!

This is not true awards can be any length of time my son was awarded Medium rate care when he was three for 13 years! And the sent a charge of circumstances form a few months before he was five which I filled in and he got Low rate mobility added on, he now gets High rate care and High rate mobility under SMI rules because I challenged the rates .

Ok I will 'get used to it'.

Just make sure you keep a copy of your old forms and use those as the basis to do your renewals, just amending as needed. Did that all through for my ds and even used it to help when he changed to PiP at 16.

But yes, I'm afraid you do have to just get used to it. Regular and random "reviews" as well

sallladfiingers · 17/07/2022 13:30

Thanks

I do have a copy of it saved somewhere.

I'm happy to fill out forms as and when required, the tone of the message 'get used to it' seemed a little unpleasant and unnecessary.

I was just looking for advice.

My son has been receiving DLA since he was three hes 12 now we have never had a random review and if I had,nt challenged the rates he was getting then I would never had to do a DLA renewal as he was awarded it for 13 years ,,awards can be any length of time it depends on the decision maker

sallladfiingers · 17/07/2022 13:33

As I suspected I'm probably not going to be subjected to random reviews or two yearly form filling.

He was awarded a fixed period which I remember was around the time he starts high school.

So I've got a good few years to go yet.
