To be making offers on vinted?

Eileen101 · 17/07/2022 08:23

I'm selling my kids outgrown clothes on vinted and I usually buy their new stuff there too. I usually favourite a few bits to watch for price changes or to put everything I like in one place.

When people favourite any of my listings, I usually make them an offer, taking off, for example, £1.

I was reading elsewhere about how people find it an intrusion/inconvenient etc to be made an offer. This seems strange to me because if it's something I like enough to have favourited it, I'd love a bit of money off Grin

AIBU to be making offers to people who favourite my items for sale?

I don't mind the offer as such it's just when they message saying thanks for interest any questions etc etc it's a bit much.
Vinted has pissed me off recently anyway even if item is damaged the buyer has to pay return postage!
Also does anyone know if you leave bad feedback can the seller do the same to the buyer?

RobertaFirmino · 17/07/2022 10:41

I always make an offer if someone favourites an item. Same with Ebay too. I always list things for a few more quid than I'm happy to accept so I can then send an offer out. Works quite well.

NightsinBlueSatin · 17/07/2022 08:58

I always message first with a hello and then I ask whether they can take some money off, particularly if I'm buying a few bits at the same time. I don't go straight to making offers because I find it a bit pushy.

But OP’s talking about making offers as a seller to potential buyers.

MrsDeaconClaybourne · 17/07/2022 10:57

I like it. Sometimes it tips the balance into me buying something, if not I just ignore it. All good either way. I suppose if someone kept chasing up an offer you ignored that would be annoying but I've never had that happen.

What I do find a bit odd is occasionally I've offered on an item that has been listed for a while that literally says open to offers and they refuse without a counter offer. I've had that happen a couple of times and was a bit puzzled.

beethecrackon24995 · 17/07/2022 10:59

Carry on as you are OP. I only discovered vinted a month ago and have been regularly buying ever since. I like being offered discounts on things I have saved

psychomath · 17/07/2022 11:54

Some people are funny on Vinted. I've had the odd person get annoyed when I make an offer slightly below the asking price, even though I always check the listing to make sure they haven't said anything about not accepting offers, and others where I've made a slightly cheeky lowball offer expecting the seller to counter it and they've practically bitten my hand off because they've had the item up for ages and just want to get rid of it. in the end I think you just have to treat it as a business transaction and not worry too much about potentially annoying people - any misunderstandings can usually be sorted out easily with some polite communication anyway.

In terms of offering discounts on favourited items, I've only had this a few times and have never gone on to buy the item (usually if I favourite stuff rather than buying immediately it's because I'm not totally sure about it anyway), but I don't think it's pushy. I do sometimes wonder what the point is though - if you're going to offer a discount as soon as someone favourites then why not just list the item at the lower price in the first place, you might get more interest that way.

liveforsummer · 17/07/2022 11:59

I deliberately favourite stuff on eBay hoping I'll get an offer. Surprised to hear Vinted is so different

Yes the seller can leave a bad review for the buyer. I left a 4 star review for something that arrived caked in pet hair, so they left me a 4 star review back.

@Tellmewhyaintnothinbutaheartbreak sorry mine are little, I'm selling 2-3, 3-4 and on the hunt for boys 5-6 to put away for the next growth spurt!

Reassuring, thanks everyone. I think I shall continue. I'm always happy to receive offers as well, and I often accept lower offers for my items for sale as they'd only be given away otherwise, and I have a large savings goal in mind Grin

I price things to sell, so I ignore offers. Some are ridiculously cheeky. Had stuff BNWT, and was selling for 25% of the price that I paid for it to get it out my wardrobe ( bought during Lockdown and cba returning) ,and people were messaging with ridiculous offers. 🙄 Sold 5 mins later for price I listed it at

Yes I get people are looking for bargains, but...

And they usually put " hun" on their messages....aggggh 🤣

Hawkins001 · 17/07/2022 16:32

I presume it's an automatic thing with eBay, but sometimes I add the items to watch list,.due to.this reason hopeing i.get offered a cheaper offer.

RaisingLOML · 18/07/2022 07:43

In settings there’s an option to notify sellers when you favourite their items - if people don’t like getting messages from sellers then they can simply untick this

People are weird !
It's the way Vinted works , you can ignore them or counter offer !!
Honestly some people are so precious ! 🙄🙄

Exactly! I honestly wonder how some people go outside.

Seriously - it’s a site built around the principle of making offers. You don’t have to accept them, but it’s ridiculous to be annoyed about people making them.

JudgeRindersMinder · 18/07/2022 08:32

Keep doing what you’re doing. I buy and sell on Vinted and receive and make offers, it doesn’t put me up or down

I said ridiculous offers, such as offering half the price of what I have listed at. I know I don't have to accept them, and I posted that I don't

Am more irritated at being called " hun" 🤣

tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz · 18/07/2022 10:19

Not at all U although as a seller I notice when people acknowledge my counter offer (generally a little above what they've done) with manners even if it's just a short and sweet "thanks but no thanks ". I often pop a little freebie in parcels for buyers that are courteous too.

tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz · 18/07/2022 10:20

Ahh apologies op I read that as you make an offer as a buyer Grin

SpiceRat · 18/07/2022 10:20

I don’t one offer being sent, but the repetition and the people who message more than once I refuse to buy from tbh.

I think the thing I find most annoying about Vinted is the buyers, absolutely cheeky right fuckers. I listed a practically new coat for £3 because the hem had come undone. Ridiculous price for the quality of the coat. Someone wanted to buy it in a bundle and because of the discounts set up, 2 dresses and the coat come to £3.30 … she sent an offer of £3. I told her to get fucked and blocked her. Honest to god, I’m on the bones of my arse (hence selling stuff) and honestly I wouldn’t have the brass neck to Tyler and rip people off like that.

That’s strange - Vinted sets a minimum on offers, so it’s impossible to offer half the price listed…

Is 4 stars a bad review? Surely it’s just slightly less good?

I don’t mind getting offers but it annoys me a bit when people message asking for feedback. If you leave it alone you get good feedback automatically anyway!

I don't want a seller to contact me unless I make an offer..just because I favour an item, dies not give them the right to pressure me by sending a price. Reduced or not. Don't bother me .

GeilistheWitch · 03/05/2025 21:13

I see that this is a zombie thread from nearly three years ago , but since @Ayleen has resurrected it......
I totally disagree with her. I "favourite" certain items I like so that I can find them again, but if I have not decided to buy them then I just ignore the proposed discounts. Like the OP, I often offer a small reduction if someone favourites something I am selling.
However, what really annoys me is the chancers who offer 60% of my asking price for a brand new, unworn item still with its original label which shows it cost me twice what I am asking for (it didn't fit properly and I couldn't return it).
By all means, make an offer, but not a ridiculously low one!
