I had a scare with my 16yo cat recently. She went to the vets today who told me she "isn't at deaths door by any stretch", her blood work is good, she's just old.

Cat is very lethargic and I'm worried about her. I've had her since she was a kitten and she's my rock. Sounds silly but she's been by my side through everything, husbands suicide, gran death etc.

I'm meant to be going away 28 July - 9 august to the states (my OH is working there, he's from there originally and his grandma has passed so I am going to support him)

Trip was booked before the cat's health scare. Cat will be fed daily by my neighbour or best friend.

I'm scared she will die without me and think I've left her. She's always been by my side and I want to be by hers. She will definitely miss me (we went twice last year and she missed me a lot bless her)

I know it sounds pathetic but I love her. I don't want her to think I'm leaving her to die or don't care etc

OH says she will be fine and vet has literally said she's ok so I shouldn't worry but I can't help it.

I'm worried because she's unusually lethargic. Not eating as much as before. Her vitals are good and her blood work is good, vet can't find anything wrong at all.

I'm scared to leave her but I want to support OH... AIBU to still go?

Rather than having a neighbour pop in to feed her, could you have somebody come and stay with her whilst you’re away or take her to them to keep her company?

She is possibly more lethargic because of the heat, I know one of mine is (one other it's hard to tell because she rarely moves anyway and the other is 9weeks old and bonkers!)

I can understand your anxiety, I am sure your cat will miss you but if the vet says she is in good health then there is no reason to think she will die when you are away.

I would also second the option of having someone stay if that's possible?

Awww, you poor thing Flowers Don't worry though, as a pp said, kitty is very likely just lethargic because it's so hot. My cat who's 12, is normally a bouncing ball of energy but she's been slinking around like a sloth - eyes closed half the time - just yawning and looking fed up, for last few weeks really.

Go on your holiday - don't give it up - because it's a real shame to do that. As a previous poster said maybe you could get someone to pop in and spend a few hours with her. But the neighbour popping in will be fine. For the most part cats sleep especially in this weather.

So to be quite honest as much as you love her (and I'm sure she loves you,) as long as there is somebody there to feed her and give her water, I don't think she'll miss you as much as you'll miss her. I don't mean that in a bad way, but cats are a kind of 'if you can't be with the one you love, love the one you're with' kind of creature. Grin (She WILL be glad to see you back though!) Smile

Enjoy your holiday!
