To ask about mince from the butchers?!

Sorry not an AIBU but just wondering who is right here, me or DP?

We bought fresh mince from the butchers yesterday lunchtime. I think it will need cooking today latest. He thinks we have until tomorrow to cook it.

Who is right? I really don't want to end up with food poisoning 😭

If in doubt, cook it today, cool it quickly in a bowl standing in cold water (or cold iced water). put in the fridge when cool, then reheat it for at least 20 minutes tomorrow with whatever vegetables you are adding to it.

Once its been in the fridge for a few hours, you can more easily skim any excess fat off, too.

Thanks everyone. Yes it's been kept in the fridge, inside a sealed plastic bag. I hadn't thought to call the butchers to ask! Will do that, thanks.

When Inworked in the Environmental Health Department the meat inspectors always used to say that meat went off faster in plastic bags. Tbh I would cook butchers mince same day. Supermarket mince is packed in bags that keep the air out so will last longer.

I would be next day with mince from
butchers.

Anything made with mince always tastes better the day after cooking anyway. Spag Bol, shepherds pie, chilli con carne, they all benefit from a 'stand' to develop the taste anyway.

Ask the butcher. He knows his stuff. That's what he's there for.
