To get Invisalign partly (mostly?!) for the weight loss benefits?

Several of my friends have had Invisalign in the last few years and without fail they have lost weight due to the fact it makes it harder to snack.
My teeth are ok-I had a brace when I was younger but they seem to have moved back a bit over the last few years and I would like them to be perfect again.
but mainly it’s the weight loss that appears!
im a terrible snacker and am about a stone heavier than I should be.
It is expensive but manageable on a monthly basis .

If this is serious you are bonkers

AmbushedByCake1 · 15/07/2022 17:57

Plus two of my friends had it done and neither lost any weight as far as I know!

Heroicallyl0st · 15/07/2022 17:58

Crazy. Better to try chewing gum or somethig surely!

ThreeLittleDots · 15/07/2022 17:58

Hypnotherapy would be cheaper

I had invisalign for 18 months and didn’t lose any weight at all. It did slightly reduce the frequency of snacking but not the amount of food I ate overall. I don’t know anyone else who lost weight from it either. I know it sounds like it should make you lose weight but that wasn’t my experience.

HintofVintagePink · 15/07/2022 18:38

It doesn’t make you lose weight. You just learn to inhale all your calories in 2 hours a day!

Darkstar4855 · 15/07/2022 18:47

I’ve had mine for a year and haven’t lost any weight! If anything I’ve gained slightly because I tend to eat more when the braces are out to make sure I don’t get hungry if I can’t take them out again for a while.

They’ve done a great job of straightening my teeth though!

ChinBristles · 15/07/2022 18:48

Try Saxenda injections instead, they killed off my appetite.

LondonQueen · 15/07/2022 18:48

Have you thought about spending the money on a gym membership instead? Much cheaper and you can still snack!

Robostripes · 15/07/2022 18:52

I have not long finished my treatment and I say do it! I did it because I wanted straight teeth not because I wanted to lose weight but in total I lost nearly a stone in a year. It didn’t come off quickly, it’s came off slowly over the first 6/7 months. I wasn’t overweight to begin with but I was right at the top of the healthy BMI range and now I’m nicely in the middle of it and feel much better about myself.

the only thing is … I think I’ll probably put it back on! I’m now wearing my aligners night times only and despite telling myself I wouldn’t go back to old habits, it’s just too easy when there’s snacks on offer at work, or the ice cream van comes round - whereas when I was wearing the aligners all day, I simply didn’t snack AT ALL.

I am fit and exercise enough. I eat resonantly big but healthy meals anyway and don’t think I’d eat any more at mealtimes to make up for missed snacks. Snacking really is my downfall. When I’ve managed to stop it before the weight drops off but I can’t seem to get the motivation.
maybe hypnotherapy is the way forward!

I would like the perfect teeth as well though

A stone heavier than you should be is really doable with some exercise and diet. If you want invisilign to improve your teeth by all means do that but not because of weight loss. Think of it as two separate issues.

VladmirsPoutine · 15/07/2022 19:32

Also to add - look at the times you tend to fall victim to snacking. Is it when you're making dinner for the family? Is it when you're watching TV? Is it when everyone's gone to bed and you're to be found at 1am infront of the fridge.

The habit itself is what you need to address. The teeth are altogether a completely separate issue.

Homewardbound2022 · 15/07/2022 19:34

My colleague has been wearing invisalign braces for 6 weeks and has dropped from 60kg to 54kg because of the faff involved taking them out to eat!

ProperVexed · 15/07/2022 19:36

Invisalign was one of the best diets I have ever been on!

Angrymum22 · 15/07/2022 19:38

It’s an expensive way to lose weight.

Whenever I'm trying to lose some weight or slim down for something, I have the same problem - snacks are my downfall. The way I've mitigated this is by cutting meals and eating snacks. I'm much happier have 12x100 calorie snacks in a day than having 3x400 calories meals. The only thing to be wary of is that your snacks aren't outrageously sugary or salty over the course of a day.

OverCCCs · 15/07/2022 19:40

I didn’t lose any weight with invisalign. I ultimately found that taking them out to snack and then cleaning my teeth afterwards wasn’t nearly a big enough hassle to stop me from snacking.
