To think £20 a week

Is fucking ridiculous for 3 children.

This is what my ex.said he was going to start paying me in child support.

We've been split 2 and a half years
Our original agreement was that he'd pay half of all clothes, unoforms, school trips and birthday parties.
A lot of the time he didn't do what he'd said and would leave me to sort it all.
One year he even tried to claim that my best friends presents to the DC were off him because he was too tight to spend any money on them and then felt guilty when he saw the effort my best friend had put in. (I soon put them straight)

Now he's decided that what I buy is too expensive (I shop in primark or George at asda for clothes, aldi/asda/Iceland for party food and I can't control the cost of uniforms or school trips) not that he was paying half anyway.

So he told me he will give me £20 a week.

For 3 kids.

One of which is a 13 year old boy in adult size s clothes and 9 feet.

£20 doesn't even cover half what they need each week. He must think they live off dust and water and never need new clothes or shoes.

Thing is I'm not even holding my breath for the £20. It won't be long before he claims he camy afford it.

So AIBU to think he's a tight sod and should pay more if he's going to pay at all?

And before anyone asks he does have more money spare but he's becoming dependent on alcohol, drinking 6-10 bottles of lager a night. He's told me how much he drinks and that he will not give up his alcohol because I asked him not to drink when he had the kids. He refused.
All of his spare cash goes on alcohol and tobacco

Wouldn’t a hamster or a stick insect have been a better choice in these circumstances? What was he thinking!

Ontomatopea · 14/07/2022 09:07

Glad you're going through CMS. How much did he earn when you were with him? Is he spending all that on booze?! Needless to say you shout be reconsidering contact if he has any.

Ontomatopea · 14/07/2022 09:07

Or tell him to provide the clothes if he can do better

DowntonCrabby · 14/07/2022 09:08

“CMS states you should be paying at least £x, please confirm this for yourself. I will open a claim on z date if £x is not paid on the 1st Monday of each week/month. It’s unfortunate if you feel you’ll have to leave your job to avoid paying for your children but I have to put them first”

The snake lives with him in a viv, she's called Lucy.
They are indeed expensive pets. At first he wanted me to take it but I refused to pay for the upkeep of it. So he kept it at his.
The DC see him twice a week, on a saturday-Sunday, 5pm-11am and then he picks them up from school on a Monday and has them until 6pm.
A lot of the time DD doesn't want to sleep over. She'll go, see her snake and cat and then come home. DS1 refuses to have anything at all to do with his dad. DS2 is only 6 and autistic so daddy is amazing to him.

When we were together he didn't earn as he was a SAHD. He didn't drink either. I was working as a room leader in a nursery, doing 50 hour weeks to bring home the money and provide for the family and then I got ill, my disabilities worsened and I couldn't work anymore. So he left me.

If he does what he threatens and quits work, at least that will mean he won't be able to afford to drink as much so he might be a more involved and responsible parent.

I appreciate that's an incredibly naive viewpoint, I think we can all tell he's a waste of space and chooses not to prioritise the welfare of his DC.

Mydogatemypurse · 14/07/2022 09:35

100% call his bluff and go thru cms. Do it for kids sake. He wont leave his job. Hes saying it to control you.

Allthegoodnamesaregoneffs · 14/07/2022 09:45

He won't leave his job, you can't just leave paid employment and go on benefits as a lifestyle choice/a means to get out of paying what you should. He would be able to claim, but he would not receive anything due to quitting a job.

And a person who has this mindset is not going to do that to themselves, its just a scare tactic. I'm glad you have claimed.

cushioncovers · 14/07/2022 09:46

Call his bluff op.

cushioncovers · 14/07/2022 09:48

Sorry just saw that you are going to claim. Well done op.

portugalq · 15/07/2022 17:33

How is it going @HerRoyalHappiness?

Abra1d1 · 15/07/2022 17:37

He’s a disgrace. I’m glad you aren’t capitulating.

HerRoyalHappiness · 15/07/2022 17:38

Not heard anything yet. Ex still thinks he's dad of the year
He is dumping his kids this weekend though because he has a date.

OP posts:
HerRoyalHappiness · 16/07/2022 17:22

ex picked up the kids and decided to kick off about how much it all costs. We have 3 fucking kids. If was never going to be cheap. And DS1 is in adult sizes at 13. So it's only going to gey more expensive.

Oh.and his 20 quid a week he said he'd give me.... he can't afford.it this week 😂 I knew he'd let me down

OP posts:
HerRoyalHappiness · 16/07/2022 17:22

He's decided ti have the kids tonight and drop them off early tomorrow so he can go on his date.

Soubriquet · 16/07/2022 17:30

I know I saw this all the time, but he’s a complete dick head and I’m glad you’ve left him.

GoT1904 · 16/07/2022 17:36

Can't afford it this week!! Going on a date though yeah? Bet that's gonna be free....

Sounds like my son's dad honestly. He's buying him uniform this year apparently, if he actually doesn't I'm going to go CMS. I'm hoping he'll pull through though... Last year for uniform he gave me £20. 😂😂😂 First time he'd ever given me anything for it though. Sons highschool blazer costs £30 for one.

DenholmElliot1 · 16/07/2022 17:38

I'd rather see him quit his job and be unemployed than for him to insult me with £20 a week.

MadeForThis · 16/07/2022 17:43

Call his bluff. Benefits won't pay for much beer.

HerRoyalHappiness · 16/07/2022 17:45

@GoT1904 sorry your kids dad is a prick too. Its amazing how blind they are to.the costs.of the children they helped to create and are meant to love and care for.
He.couldnt tell you any of our DCs shoe size or clothing size and he couldn't tell you what their interests are. He just doesn't care if it doesn't involve him
