Anyone find they get more squeamish as they get older

As the title says. Has anyone else found that as they have got older they have become more squeamish? I used to be able to handle anything and couldn’t understand why people were so bothered by wounds on other people but over the last couple of years I’ve found I can’t handle it anymore.
I nearly passed out (went all hot, dizzy and almost sick) last year when the doctor took the dressing off my DDs surgery opening. I put the down to all the emotions of her being in hospital, lack of sleep / food and the heat on the ward but my DH took his bandage off his surgery wound yesterday and when I saw lots of dried blood on the bandage I went all funny again!

Yep, I didn’t used to care much but now I can’t deal with it. DP sliced his thumb open a few years ago when the knife slipped. I got so far on adrenaline, got a towel, got the first aid kit, then went all woozy. Fortunately his sister was visiting at the time and was able to help him get it treated while I had to go and lie down or I’d have fallen down!

Definitely

KittyEmK · 13/07/2022 21:59

Yes, since I've had a baby weirdly

Yes - I have started to pass out at the sight of blood - used to be able to watch blood samples being taken, now can't. I have actually fainted, much to my embarrasment.

Ha I'm so squeamish now I can't even read the posts in this thread 🤣🤣.

I

Yes! It’s so weird. I used to be completely unbothered about stuff like this and then recently (nearly 40) I notice I’ve started to have a really physical reaction to gory things. I was reading an awful story about a car crash in the news the other day and I actually felt like I was going to be sick. So strange!

MissDollyMix · 13/07/2022 22:05

I also seem to have developed a massive fear of heights that I never had when I was younger.

jharley78 · 13/07/2022 22:07

Definitely. I notice it in relation to gore on TV, human related I don't mind. I feel more sensitive to and avoid things that I barely would have blinked at before

Me too. And I get car sick

Was told that was due to something in our ear thinning

Yes! Me too! Although I did get car sick as a child, I then grew out of it and never suffered at all through most of my 20’s and early 30’s and now it’s back! The worst trigger for me though is watching any amateur videos where the camera is bobbing about! Causes almost instant nausea that lasts for hours!!

Afrodizzyak · 13/07/2022 23:06

I can't bear seeing aerial shots or tall buildings on TV. I feel dizzy and faint.

FawnFrenchieMum · 14/07/2022 06:07

Wow, seems like it is a thing then! So bizarre.

I’ve nod developed the fear of heights yet. I’ll look out for that one creeping up on me!

Less for me. I once fainted in a 1st aid class at school...i now work in operating theatres! I have seen all sorts of ick and quite enjoy it!

malificent7 · 14/07/2022 06:15

Definately not into heights now!
