AIBU to ask for senco input?

My son has had his reception report. There's a table and my son has been marked as below expectation in half areas. Although the teachers comments are positive she has highlighted his difficulty in listening and concentrating. My son was born with NAS which can cause developmental delays, learning difficulties etc. Is it unreasonable to ask for the schools SENCO to have some input at this point?

Definitely ask for it. Getting help for children with SEN can be a huge battle so the earlier you start the better. Don't just accept it if they say they can't help. You are probably going to have to push. I would start researching EHCPs. You can apply yourself if the school won't do it. As a parent and as someone who has worked in schools, the parents who push for it are the ones whose children get what they need.

Good luck!

Thanks I wasnt sure if I was overreacting with him only being in reception but I'll definitely ask now. I'll look into EHCPs too

Far too early a stage to be looking at EHCPs so don't worry about that yet.

Speak to the senco. A lot will depend on how behind and what areas for how concerned to be.

Far too early to be looking at EHCPs. Very unlikely to need one if he is at expected level or above in half the areas.
But do discuss with his teacher how you can help him over the Summer, and also what they might be offering to give him some extra support in the coming year.
