Posting here for traffic

I’m sure I’m not the only person who just feels more horrified with each passing day by how people are being crippled by cost of living rises across the board, while also feeling quite helpless about what to do

So I thought this thread could be a place to share ideas for what people can do which could make a difference, big or small, to help out, either nationally or locally

I’m going to assume a starting point of everyone paying correct taxes etc, and respectfully ask it doesn’t become a wealth bashing/political philosophy/class war thread but gives pointers on what could make a real difference (also assuming most people are ‘normal’ incomes with some spare cash to help, not billionaires)

I’ve upped our donations to the local food bank, and contacted the PTA to see if there is a way of collecting money to buy vouchers for supermarkets to give to families over the summer holidays but would like to
do more

all ideas welcome

Someone on an earlier thread suggested Acts 435 which really deserves to be better known. You make direct donations to people in need -

I do not think there is much anyone can do in reality It is going to get much worse
Russia and China have the vast majority of natural resources under their control
While the uk has been obsessed with gender and race politics and what people should be called they have been buying up the resources in Africa
Ukraine produces 75% of the world wheat
In the meantime we are building houses on farms to satisfy a population vastly increased by migration
They intend the squeeze the west until it screams and begs for mercy
I honestly think that any kids born now who do not have well off parents are in for a hideous future
This is just the start

Building on farms....? What a bizarre comment. We only have urban building on 8% of our land, with 92% remaining as green space.

Make sure people know how to help themselves the best they can. There is a lot of information available but it's not all well known and people sometimes leave it too late to seek help, when their problems have got a lot worse. Plus there's no shame in asking for help, the cost of living crisis is affecting more and more people.

Moneysaving Expert is a good start and has a section on the cost of living crisis.

We also donated our £150 that was given to council tax bands A to D to National Energy Action, which I read about on here.

Finally, it needs to be more socially acceptable to say 'I can't afford it', to look for cheaper ways of enjoyment and to model behaviours that discourage waste and spending for the sake of it. Eg, cutting down on presents at Christmas. A lot of what is bought and exchanged is complete rubbish that no-one wants or needs, and at a time when many can't afford essentials, we need to avoid getting trapped into the cycle of 'having' to get gifts for people due to social obligation. Just spend time with people and share practical help instead.
