To be annoyed about this?

This is outing so may be vague.

Due to road closures near my workplace, next week the 100s of staff will get to work from home but I and a few others will have to attend the office as we are not impacted by road closures.

As a result of the huge discrepancy in staff in the office, my role will change to carry out all the things that are needed to be done face to face. Essentially it will be an imbalanced workload, the people at home will be doing F all and have a reduced workload. Whereas the people in the office will be overloaded with trying to scram everyone else’s face to face stuff in. It’s a priority to meet the face to face demand, so I will have to temporarily give up the other projects I manage on the side whereas the people at home wouldn’t have to do that, or pick up the work I miss out on.

aibu to be annoyed?

Ask those at home to pick up your side projects?

ClocksGoingBackwards · 11/07/2022 18:38

Yanbu. Is there no other solution and no other way those people could get to work?

If not then I think you just have to deal with it, but don’t knock yourself out trying to get everything done. Just do what you can do at your own pace, they can’t expect any more from you when you’ve been put upon like this.

How long are the road closures for?

Can your employer perhaps give you an extra day or two off in recognition of the fact you're picking up the work they can't do for that time?

Theoneinthemiddle · 11/07/2022 18:46

YANBU however it’s nobody’s fault this situation occurred. Not really other workers or management. So you can’t even get annoyed with anyone. Doing twice as much work is terrible though- I hope they do something to recognise your extra effort .

Meh. It’s annoying but it’s one of those things.

[like having to work through covid while hundreds of thousands got to sit around at home doing feck all and still got paid.]

ok, that’s me being snarky but I’ve had jobs where there was a work jolly but because it was impractical to shut down the whole office a handful of us had to not attend and stay to answer the phones. Weather incidences when barely half the staff made it in to work, etc. Shit happens, this time round you’re taking the brunt
