Food going off really quickly

Am I being unreasonable or has the shelf life of food deteriorated recently?

There seem to be really short shelf life on food, with a day or two before the bb date expires. But even food that is well in date tastes like it is already going off.

Is this a brexit thing? Have food regs changed? Ironically the freshest food seems to be canned or frozen now or exotic fruit like pineapple shipped half way across the world.

I will admit I lost some sense of taste with covid a while back, so it could be distorted but I don't think so.

Is it just me, or has the quality of food changed for the worse? At the same time prices have increased!

Practical 😁 quick into salads. I am big fan of tinned fish for some weird reason. I just recently discovered the salmon! Not bad at all.

If you go to some shops with foreign foods look into tin section. Lychee are actually also nice from tin

Yeah the salmon is nice mashed up with a fork and loads of vinegar added. Nice in a brown bread sandwich with real butter.

Oooh yes I love lychees. I will look out for those.

I have noticed a gradual decline in fresh food since Brexit. I worked for a major uk supplier for the supermarkets and it’s crazy how much the supermarkets in the uk are in control. My guess ( not fact ) is that they are holding on to food until it’s start’s to deteriorate.

I now shop at my local fruit and veg for fresh stuff.

Definitely, berries (strawberry, raspberry, blueberry) have been going off very quickly this year. Use by dates are short and half of them have typically started going squidgy/mouldy even before that. I've noticed that M&S is the only shop whose fruit doesn't do this, but unfortunately Sainsbury's has a monopoly in our neighbourhood.
