Sorry Sunday

Ticksallboxes · 11/07/2022 00:23

On Sunday 17th and Monday 18th July temperatures peak at 29°C in the South East according to the BBC, then it's back to around 24°C.

The tabloids are writing rubbish - just ignore.

The Met office isn't the most reliable, just incase you thought they were. Their modelling isn't always so sound, and this isn't coming from the tabloids. It's coming from professionals that this is an actual possibility.

If you think telling people to be prepared just incase is a bad thing, then I think you need to give your head a wobble.

We regularly gave temperatures higher than that where I live. I can assure you life goes on.

It's a bit different if you're not acclimatised to it.

Narwhalelife · 11/07/2022 07:46

@VeniVidiWeeWee @Georgeskitchen I honestly don’t, I had heard from so many people about this heatwave but when I went looking for info only the Daily Mail mentioned it 🤣

When they make weather forecasts they run lots of models and the most likely forecast is the one that is given by most models

The over 40 is only being given by a few machines

What is unusual is I think that it's the first time over 40 has been forecast for the uk

It's called climate change and it's already here

Do you want it to stabilise here or go two or three times worse?

User739267 · 11/07/2022 07:56

Never mind the DM, the Express will go into overdrive with a heatwave, they were always the worse for dramatic weather headlines.

User739267 · 11/07/2022 07:57

I read the DM as it is free online, no worse than reading a lot of the rubbish on here.

A bit off topic, but why does every other thread on here reference The Daily Mail, yet no one, not one person in the entire land actually reads it?

Favouritefruits · 11/07/2022 08:23

Well you should all move north it’s highs of 17! 😑

Presumably all your houses have air con though.

It's one those great mysteries like absolutely nobody voted brexit and nobody voted tory 🙄

Valeriekat · 11/07/2022 10:07

I am in Portugal, the weather forcast said it would be 43 today, it is actually 16 at the moment.
I think they are catastrophising although I am not sure why.

RollOnWinter · 11/07/2022 10:10

I was in hospital all last summer when it was hot - and they had the heating on! It was bloody awful

Why do MMers claim not to read the Daily mail yet keep posting links?
They clearly do read the DM!!

I read it because it holds the opposite political and ethical views to myself to try and understand where the opposite views come from. I think it is a good way of testing your views of the world to read publications who don't agree with you, in the same way it is good to have friends with differing opinions. One of the current problems is that people become very entrenched in their own world view because they never challenge it by engaging with people who have opposite views.

georgarina · 11/07/2022 10:22

Very scary

Fairislefandango · 11/07/2022 10:31

Max temperature forecast is 22° here, and back down to 16 or 17 for the week, then back up to 21° at the weekend. Glad I'm not down south - 25 is about as hot as I ever want to be!

Loics · 11/07/2022 10:33

I hate the heat, really hate it, but have lived in 40°c+ heat. It is difficult to compare because it is a hot country, so houses are generally equipped for it - blinds as standard on every window, tiled/lino floors, air con, lots of ventilation, 99% of properties have a balcony and most have a pool (own if in a house, generally a shared one for apartment blocks). That's part of the problem when we get this heat in the UK, our houses tend to become red hot because they're built for a (generally) colder climate. 😩

If it does get this hot, stay indoors if at all possible, in the shade (windows open but blinds or curtains closed) and drink plenty of water. Even if you don't feel too thirsty, make sure you're well-hydrated. Fans might just blow hot air around, but having a fan pointed at you will help (I've found). If you don't have air con at home, if you can quickly get in the car, air con does make a nice change, I've previously went for a drive to have it on and keep a bit cooler than I would be in the house!
