To see GP about migraines

I'm just wondering when you'd worry about migraines or if I'm overreacting?

It's not necessarily the intensity of the migraines themselves that is worrying me but the increased frequency.

I have always suffered from the odd migraine. Used to be about once every few months or so.

Since about a year ago I seem to be getting them more frequently. It's whenever it's bright outside, as soon as I step outside into the light on a day like today my vision goes shaky and I feel very odd for about 10 mins, high is the only way I can describe it, dizzy and people's voices feel far away and then the headache comes and it's usually over within about half an hour. But it can happen a few times a day when the sun is out. I hate leaving my house. I just had another then when I literally nipped outside to put something in my bin, that was all it took.

Would this worry you? Going from one every 3 months or so and no obvious trigger to every time it's bright out and multiple times a day when it is?

If it makes any difference, I had my first child about a year ago too.

It wouldn't worry me as I have a history of migraine, so for instance, wouldn't worry me that something sinister was going on all of a sudden, but it would frustrate me that they were causing a drop in my quality of life.

I suddenly had an uptick in migraines last year and was so fed up of them that they put me on medication both to try and prevent a migraine and increased my normal dose of abortive medication. Seems to have done the trick however I have no identifiable triggers to be fair. They're so miserable.

Bright sunlight gives me migraine too.
I never leave the house on a sunny day without my polarised sunglasses, and this helps massively.

I also get exercise induced migraines, sot his is another trigger for me.

I did go to the GP initially and they took my blood pressure, did a few neuro checks and then chatted to me about avoiding triggers. They weren't concerned it was anything more sinister. So it put my mind at rest.

So worth going if you think it would help, and you could ask about medication options too.

I think I'd discuss it - not because I'd suspect anything awful, more to help prevent it. Eg if it's after birth it could be related to hormones.
Light is a big trigger for me too - I never leave the house without sunglasses on now, even to pop to the bins etc. I leave a pair right by the door.

I would definitely go about that especially as it’s impacting your daily life. When I saw the GP about migraines they did some other checks just to make sure it wasn’t anything else and they had some good advice plus there’s preventative medication you can take.
My best advice is to try acupuncture though

It wouldn't worry me, but I'd try to get it sorted. My migraines increased from two per year to at least once a week. I got a referral to a migraine specialist. He started me on medication and supplements. It was life-changing. They're down to one every couple of months now. Go see your doctor.

Like a pp I'm very light sensitive. I love summer because I can permanently wear my sunglasses, I've got prescription ones. I also often leave my curtains closed. My DD had similar to you and was given tips about light, not wearing in ear headphones, hydration/diet and relaxation. She's got high dose sumatriptan put on prescription just in case she needs one to be able to work. They will say have an eye test, but may examine your ears, so it's worth getting everything checked.

Yes, I would. Mainly to get it sorted, but also to just get a medical sense check to make sure nothing more serious.
