Sickness bug at hotel before flight.

Due to get up for a flight in 2 1/2 hours. We're meant to be going on our honeymoon. I've just been sick and had diarrhoea. I'm guessing I'm not going anywhere. Would you still fly if you had a stomach bug. Feel so sad that I might miss our honeymoon 😢.

Bloody hell just seen some daft poster suggests Imodium!

Mumofsend · 11/07/2022 07:04

A flight like this is the stuff of nightmares.

Definitely an insurance job

stayingpositiveifpossible · 11/07/2022 07:17

Just to look on the bright side...
d and v can be a symptom of Covid.

No, I wouldn't even think about going.

Cashewwws · 11/07/2022 07:29

I can’t believe some people are saying they’d go. Stomach bugs are fucking awful - they will ruin people’s holidays. Argh!!!!

I also have emetophobia so reading threads like this makes me extra cross!!

OP I hope you feel better and so so sorry about your honeymoon. Thank goodness for insurance and hopefully you can rebook soon xx

Hotchox · 11/07/2022 07:36

Might have been said already, but being on a plane, with the crappy, stale low-pressure air in there will probably make your symptoms feel worse.

Don't do it. In your shoes now, I'd be resolving to sort the insurance, put aside a bit more cash, rearrange the trip for a longer stay, or go somewhere nicer, just to spite fate that's done this to you.

Hope you're feeling better soon.

If you have emetophobia, why on Earth would you read a thread titled “Sickness bug..”?

dottiedodah · 11/07/2022 07:47

What a shame .However you should be able to claim on Insurance surely ? Just think you will have it to look forward to .Try to relax ,and when home rest and recuperate .Tomorrow /weds contact Ins co .

Not much of a phobia if you voluntarily click on a thread about a vomiting bug

Bertieboo82 · 11/07/2022 07:50

Lizbiz89 · 10/07/2022 02:50

@INeedANewNameAgain unfortunately this flight only departs once s week from our airport and we were only going for 4 nights. We have insurance so will claim. Can't believe this happening right before my honeymoon 😢

The only way you’ll get money back is if on your Gp record that you saw a Gp about it

Bertieboo82 · 11/07/2022 07:52

Or a telephone app

you need something on your health record about it

ShirleyPhallus · 11/07/2022 08:01

Hope you feel better soon op

I’ve been seeing a psychiatrist on and off all my life for this. Please don’t tell me it’s not much of a phobia.

Anyway, as I said OP I hope you feel better very soon. It is rotten x

Perhaps better to avoid threads with the words “sickness bug” in them!

lonelymum22 · 11/07/2022 10:28

Those saying you don't click on a thread entitled "sickness bug" if you have emetophobia. So ignorant.

Yes - some people do. I have emetophobia and one of the key symptoms is hypervigilance and paying excessive attention to things sickness related. For me, I am compelled to read things like this partly because I'm hypervigilant to the threat it represents for me, and partly because I'm subconsciously attempting to "expose" myself to feared stimuli to try to reduce my anxiety (ie "if I read about someone's vomiting bug, I'll desensitise myself and realise it's not so scary after all..." etc). There is so much ignorance around phobias and in particular fear of vomiting! @Cashewwws I'm sorry you have this awful fear too and I'm sorry people have been ignorant towards you on this thread.

OP - apologies for the derail. I'm very sorry that you're feeling unwell. I hope you can rearrange your honeymoon and that you get well soon. Flowers

Cheeseandlobster · 11/07/2022 10:29

SNWannabe · 10/07/2022 04:31

@sheusesmagazines thats disgusting. You’d risk infecting everyone else on the plane just so you could have your holiday? Urgh selfish prick.

This. Selfish selfish bastard behaviour

Cheeseandlobster · 11/07/2022 10:31

Ps that wasn't at you op. I am gutted for you. You must be devastated

MadameCholetsDirtySecret · 11/07/2022 10:47

I cant see much point in going as the poor OP is likely to be ill for the whole of her break. Surely it is better to be ill at home rather than in a hotel ?

DragonMaster · 11/07/2022 10:55

If it's norovirus it's highly infectious even for a two or three days after symptoms have resolved - so while you are sick you most definitely would be highly infectious. It could make others quite sick and ruin their holidays at the very least. It really is rubbish timing and it so disappointing for you, but there is no way I would fly with this. Sorry op, hope you feel better soon.

sheusesmagazines · 10/07/2022 03:09

Personally if the flight was under 4 hours I would go, wear a mask and take some Immodium. By the time you get on the flight the worst will be over.

That is so incredibly selfish.

BashfulClam · 11/07/2022 11:04

Do not take Imodium with a stomach bug. You have to basically let your body get rid of it. I did this and I made myself more unwell. My stomach expanded and was full of wind, my hands and feet turned cold and blue tinged. Norovirus is easily caught as well so that full flight, people at the accommodation, staff members etc are likely to all catch it.

Nat6999 · 11/07/2022 16:27

Northernsoullover no we were flying back from the Costa Blanca, after asking around on the plane most sufferers had eaten either at a beach bar or the chip shop at the resort, I had eaten at both & was fine but exh was really ill for a month & lost over 2 stone in weight.

Simonjt · 11/07/2022 16:31

I was once on a flight with someone who had a bad stomach, obviously during taxi, take off and landing you have to remain seated, and during turbulence etc. It was a bit of a rough flight and she had an accident, so not only was it awful for her, we then had three hours sat in a plane that stank of poo and the poor stewards had to clean liquid shit off her chair and the carpet.

sheusesmagazines · 12/07/2022 09:13

I retract my utterly daft, selfish and stupid "advice" to try to go! Christ I'm an asshole!!! OP I hope you're feeling better
