To still be absolutely gutted 2 weeks on

I recently switched to a different part of my organisation a slightly more senior role. This was because there wasn't likely to be an opportunity for promotion in that team so felt it was best to move on.
I knew very quickly it probably wasn't the best move for me and I really missed the previous work.
Within a week my previous manager contacted me to tell me they had been able to agree a new post within my old team which would be ideal for me.
My old manager plus lots of other seniors really encouraged me to go for it and said I would be a shoe in after all my hard work etc
I really prepped for the interview workimh hours every evening sorting presentation practising answers etc

I didn't get it. Noone did they went out for advert again. I thought I did OK at interview but it obviously wasn't good enough.
I'm still absolutely gutted I would have loved that job and I've worked so hard. I could still cry 2 weeks later feels like I missed my big shot. My confidence is at 0 so won't be attempting it again

In your position I would really make sure I got an answer to the question as to what happened at interview. This was all set up for you, so something went so wrong that they felt they couldn't appoint. You need to know what that is before going back to interview. And in doing so I'd be listening out for soemthing that let me know that they'd changed their minds about something that they might not be able to dicuss with me. Good luck thinking this through.

Arseholes!! Basically, they know you can do the job, you were told to go for it, and they turned you down.

This is exactly what Healthwatch England did to me. Twice!

OP I feel for you. When Healthwatch England did this to me twice, it took me a while to “get over it” - they’re quite well known for it though (just wish I knew beforehand)

I'm not over the first rejection so not sure how I would be with another one if i didn't get it this week so I'm thinking of pulling out. But there's part of my brain saying try again. It's so hard as I know it will be a more stressful job for another 150 a month is it worth it?!

My heart goes out to you OP. The same thing happened to me. I was verbally promised the job which I had been doing for a year and told the interview was just a formality. Instead they gave it to an external candidate who made me redundant a year later.

That's awful crowfeet hope you are doing OK now?
I've sent my email declining interview. It feels like a weight has lifted already tbh and now I'm getting into new role I'm enjoying it more not as much money but zero stress which is priceless
