Ehcp worry

I have a meeting next week for my child's annual ehcp review ready for starting year one after a year in reception.

I have noticed much of the provision section is quite vague, it says 'opportunities for' and 'will be provided with' when referring to 1:1 time or small group work. It isn't clear and specific.

This wasn't really an issue in reception, but year one is a more formal way of learning and it worries me.

I am certain they will not be able to access the curriculum and understand the work without a high level of support for things like English/phonics/maths.

They don't need a 1:1 for the whole school day but for certain aspects of learning they will.

How difficult is it to get it written into the ehcp that they will be provided with X number of hours per week 1:1?

I worry that without it being clear, the school will just do what they can when they can, and I won't have a leg to stand on if my child struggles.

I have just paid for an educational lawyer to amend my child's draft ehcp. She has written 15 pages of amendments!

It angers me that not everyone gets this support, this level of 'care' for our often vulnerable kids and I'm very aware that we are formulate we can afford it.

If there's any chance you can afford it, it is not £750 I will ever regret spending.

It's not easy.

But as other posters have said it's the law. They must quantified and specified and if they aren't you can go to tribunal.

I'm going to go through the current ehcp and highlight bits that I want quantified and ask them to explain why not if they won't put it in.

Absolutely no hope of spending that kind of money, I will be pushing for something more watertight though and questioning everything that isn't clear.

Last year I was a bit clueless and in a bit of a fog after the diagnosis it all came as a bit of a shock, but I'm more prepared this year and it's a big jump to ks1 so i want it to be right.

SOSSEN have a draft checking service and are reasonably priced. But it does hinge of whether reports are detailed, specified and quantified.
